Model: Mini 35
Year: 1994
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

How do I remove the speedo cable from the back of the speedo? It is the standard rover twin clock setup, and it is held in with a white plastic clip. The only problem is, I can't seem to get i undone lol!

Another thing was that the car is fitted with an emission control system, charcoal filter under near side wing and a cat, but it is fitted with a carb as standard. I'm changing the engine completely to my new 1380. Can I junk my charcoal filter and replace it with a small breather type filter on the engine, or do need to keep it legally? The cat has already gone as the guy at my local mini centre said he would MOT it without it.

Cheers

I struggled getting my speedo cable off aswell. in the end i used a logn flathead screwdriver and prised it off. i dont think this is the propper way but it was the only way i could get mine off.

i need to take mine off aswell as it isnt working, i see what you mean about the clip. Screwdriver seems to be the easiest option at the moment..

you removed it from underneath the engine yet? that seems to be the harder part

Its been a while since i did mine but was something like you tilt the white plactic bit to one side and then it should slide out, no need for a screwdriver. once you've worked out how to do it it's easy as pie >_<

i had the same problem. just give it a good yank, you cant really damage it much but its ones of those jobs where you have to be ruthless

You need a tiny flat headed screwdriver and there is a slot you can push in with the screwdriver and it unlocks it. Took me a while to figure out

You dont need a screwdriver, the proper way to remove them (and quickest) is the way it says in the haynes, push the white coller to one side then pull off, took me a bit of head scraching and im really clever >_< :). It explains it in the haynes though, after I read it, 2 secs it was off .
