Helloo

Ive got a weird problem i think..My mini is running very well smooth as anything but the only thing is if i go somewhere and get out do whatever it is for only a short time 15-20mins or so ill get back to the mini and it wont start..the engine will turn over but wont actually start unless i keep turning it over for 10-15seconds and just give it abit of gas it will eventually start..as i say its only short times...long periods away it will be absoloutly fine...1 hour and so on

any ideas at all

Well it being a injection car does make a big difference!

I suppose it could be the charcoal canister purge valve, if that were sticky then it might not close when it should. There's probably a more obvious cause though if you understand the injection system properly. I'll move this to the injection section.

I Had this a long time ago on my SPI, i drove to Swanage (dorset) from Brighton. Non stop driving until near the ferry and turned it off, then it wouldnt start for about 30 seconds of turning and gassing.

Very strange could be a SPI things

Check your earth to the engine (clean contacts)

I had smilar problems with mine.. it would start.. and then decide it didn't want to later on in the day... it eventually decided not to start in the mornings making it very un-reliable. It would fire straight away when jump started.

After adding on an additional earth strap to the engine, i've not had problems since.

Checking other parts like the Ht leads, spark plugs, rotor arm and dizzy cap are a good thing to do too. If they haven't been replaced in a while (i.e at the last service or over a year ago) they would be worth replacing. Check the connections and earth to your battery too.

Thanks for your opinions

Im going to check the canister valve first..i doubt it will be leads etc due to being replaced in jan...

and my earth strap is pretty new anyway...

sometimes happens to my mates vw polo, but thts just because of bouncing around a lot and engine gets starved of fuel so cuts out. and then like you say, 10-15 secs of turning it over and addin some gas it will kick up.

bit random, dunno if it will help.lol.
