Hi,

I fitted the colortune kit on a warm engine. I have tried richening and leaning off the mixture all the way through but i do not get a blue flame.

I tried pushing the jet down slightly, and as soon as i did this i saw a blue flame. What needs to be done?

I think it might be best in the future to keep all your problems in one thread so we know what you have and haven't done already rather than making new topics, gives us more infomation and we can narrow down the problem.

As said have you compared the colour of the flame to the pictures in the instructions, all colourtune instructions will tell you what flame colours represent a weak or rich mixture, without knowing this you wont know weather you need to richen or lean off the mixture. But if the plugs are black then it indicates its running rich. You need to compare the current flame colour with the chart in the instructions.

Just re-read your previous thread and I would say its running rich if the chokes pushed in.

Paul.

The flame stays the same colour throughout, yellow/orange, there is no change at all so im not sure what to do

Is the engine at idle?? Get the engine at a nice steady, low tick over. Then weaken the mixture until you get a nice blue flame.

It will stay orange if the idles high.

to change the idle speed is it the nut that holds on the accelerator that i loosen or tighten or is it another screw?

If you look just above the throttle leaver mechanism on the side of your carb you should see it touching on a little Phillips screw when its at idle, just give the screw a turn and the idle speed will change.

You should get a haynes manual, it explains tuning of the carb really well and is easy to understand, it will make tuning easier for you.

If you don't have a manual... as Pauly said... it's a "must". You really need either a Haynes manual or a copy of one of the SU manuals at hand when you are working on carbs for the first time.

That said, I do have a suggestion for you. In addition to all the other things that have been suggested about adjusting the mixture and getting the Bunsen blue flame... remember that there is an order to jet adjustment. I'm guessing you did not disconnect your choke linkage and back off the fast idle screw. Depending on which carb you have, it's quite possible that the choke linkage is holding the jet in place and rendering your jet adjustments useless and ineffective.

Like DKL said, I seem to remember years ago when I was 17 and had my picadilly, me and my dad messing around for ages and discovering the choke was messing up the adjustments.

I have found out that my choke cable has slack, but before i put the choke mechanism back on, does anyone have a picture of a hs4 carb showing how the choke mechanism should be? When i pull the choke cable out it should push the jet down and when i push it back in it should pull the jet back up again?

When i push the choke back in it was not pushing the jet up because of the slack. I had taken off the choke mechanism when I fitted the stage 1 kit and now thinking that I may have put the choke mechanism back on incorrectly so does anyone has a picture of how it should be setup?

and the little bar from the jet that connects to the choke mechanism should hook into that hole which is just below where the choke cable is screwed on? the spring on the choke mechanism has no use at the moment the way its setup, so something must be wrong

Yup, the jet should go down.
