What we've missed out ontop of this are all the ones sitting in the old airfields (I remember those pictures in the Daily mail) of thousands of cars literally parked nose to tail from the scrappy scheme waiting to I dunno, rust? there must be thousands in there...

then ofcourse theres the z cars, honda conversions, post 2000 builds.... alot of these aren't registered as minis they are "kit cars". Have you included marcos's and all the other odd varieties that we only seem to see at shows?

and then all the concourse, rally spec, grass track jobbies which are mostly no longer declared or "scrapped"......

though it makes you wonder, how come theres always about 200 minis for sale on ebay.... and why do we sell em so quick?. as that works out average 7 days per listing about 200 a week, ish...

200X52, is 10,000ish minis sold per year on ebay alone in the Uk (and the odd european/australian export).

surely there must be more out there...... we must build more! or bring em back to the motherland!

Update to this thread!
The latest DVLA figures for the Classic Mini have just been published in the November 2010 issue of Mini Magazine:-

Barely 30,000 Mini's left on the road 2010
Latest UK Statistics:
63,592 Classic Minis still registered in UK on October 1st 2010
of which:
32,847 were taxed,
30,745 on SORN

(Wolseley Hornet and Riley Elf derivatives were not included)

5,505,874 Total Mini's produced 1959-2000
1,581,887 = UK sales (28.7%)
3,923,987 = Rest of world (71.3%)

 Another update this time for Hornet and Elf owners!

A recent 'Freedom of Information request' by an Elf/Hornet Register member revealed:
"On the 22 August 2010, there were 327 Riley Elf vehicles with a current licence and 225
with a SORN. Also, there were 275 Wolseley Hornets with a current licence and 166 with
a SORN."

Rare cars and possibly a future 'endangered species'...........

(Also very interesting that it seems these type of figures can be requested from the DVLA under a 'Freedom of Information' request).

I currently own 5 Minis, 1x 'Mayfair = sorn, 1x City with 1275 lump 😀, 1x 1.3i cooper with the engine converted back to su carb, 1x Pickup thats been used for autograss racing so really its a wheelbarrow in the shape of a pickup! Its in storage as i have no logbook for it..., and one fully functioning on the road pickup which i recently purchased.. Im a very happy Mini man indeed!
by the way if anyone has a logbook for the stored pickup i would be happy to either buy it or sell the body to a fellow enthusiast to get another Pickup on the road and away from the abyss!
07799336917 to discuss...😉

Might also be worth asking on the Mini Pickup forum as obviously quite a few Pickups have got broken up over the years before they became sought after and owners often kept the documents for nostalgic reasons when they did not end up going into official breakers yards:-

I believe the numbers of high value Minis like the Mk1/2/3 Cooper S have actually increased due to barn finds and lots of log book rebuilds.......

What happened to any Minis that existed only on a V5 before SORN came in?

"Shoe box purgatory" might be back now you don't have to declare SORN annually. I'd think most Min's shaking off the their mortal coil now go through a Zoroastrian/Parsi funerary process.

i'm sure it's referenced elsewhere on the forum, but DVLA publish datasets of licensed vehicles every year - 2017 data for cars can be found through the link below..

Thanks thumbsup.gif

1,581,887 Minis sold in UK 1959-2000 according to this:-

http://www.orange.co...imecarsorangeuk

In 2002 there were 117,504 Mini Saloons and Estates, and 1,771 Vans and Pick-ups left on UK roads = 119,275 total

Approx. 7.5% of the 1,581,887 were left in the UK in 2002, so around 92.5% had been scrapped/written off or exported..........would be interesting to compare the current figures 7 years on?

Here are the figures 14y on:
