Out of interest does anyone have more recent figures for the number of classic Minis left on British roads, than those listed below from 2002?

Source: SMMT (The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders)
A total of 117,504 Mini Saloons and Estates, and 1,771 Vans and Pick-ups, were recorded by the DVLC as being on the road in Great Britain - 1st August 2002.

http://www.smmt.co.u...gistrations.cfm

Also does anyone have the Annual UK Mini sales figures for each year from 1994 up to the last year 2000?
My Chris Rees "Complete Mini" book only lists up to 1993 @ 6,326 Minis sold that year..........in the back page listings.

I think a book I have at home has the numbers on mini's sold, I'll check when I get home.
Only 2% of minis made left on the road seems a bit low, suppose it isn't taking into account exports, sorns, the 3 million projects on this forum etc?

Thanks :shifty:

1,581,887 Minis sold in UK 1959-2000 according to this:-

http://www.orange.co...imecarsorangeuk

In 2002 there were 117,504 Mini Saloons and Estates, and 1,771 Vans and Pick-ups left on UK roads = 119,275 total

Approx. 7.5% of the 1,581,887 were left in the UK in 2002, so around 92.5% had been scrapped/written off or exported..........would be interesting to compare the current figures 7 years on?

Imagine if they ALL turn up for IMM 2009! Or even 1/4 of them, that'll be 30000 minis!!

When I last checked with the SMMT it was around the 95,000 mark (can't remember exactly). Save the Minis!

Dear Sir / Madam,

As you may be aware 2009 is the 50th Anniversary of the Mini.

I, and I’m sure many other of the little car’s enthusiasts would be interested to know how many are still gracing the roads of Great Britain with their presence, or are sat in garages, devouring their owners disposable income, being lovingly restored.

I would appreciate if you are able to provide information about the number of Minis that currently have valid vehicle excise licences, or have declared a SORN. I will publish any information that you provide on The Mini Forum, an Internet user group with over ten thousand members worldwide where it will be freely available to any interested parties.

I would be grateful if you can reply in as much detail as possible, ideally listing the quantities for both Taxed and SORN’ed cars by year of registration and individual model.

The particular models, from over the 41years of production are:

Great idea Ethel :) ..........I think the more details we have on the Minis of all types still around and how fast they are disappearing can only help more to be saved. Many of the lower value uneconomic to repair 1980's and 90's Minis are still going to scrap/breaking for spares after failing MOT's or sustaining light accident damage making them insurance write-offs (including many late MPI Sportpacks).

Practical Classics magazine have been publishing the DVLA/SMMT figures for several classics cars recently and it is surprising how few remain of what were once very common cars............PC told me the Mini figures are quite detailed due to the many models and variants but have not published any info yet. I would guess accuracy of the Mini Special Edition numbers will depend on how many Dealers entered the original Registration details accurately?

When I last checked with the SMMT it was around the 95,000 mark (can't remember exactly). Save the Minis!

When did you last check? To lose 25k Minis in 6 years is quite shocking. At that rate they'll be gone by 2015!! :P

It depends on when they were reported lost - maybe a glut were reported scrapped when the new electronic taxing systems came in?
But had actually be scrapped years before just not 'on paper'...?

But yeah, that's a scary stat.

I'm sure I'm not alone in being the keeper of several virtual Minis: ones that got turned in to bean cans long before SORN existed but were never notified to Swansea and still appear on their database. Your average scrapyard still has no interest in paperwork and will often tell you to just fill in the V5 stating you scrapped a car yourself. Perhaps DVLA have changed how they account for those cars, no one will ever know how many are languishing in dusty garages or rotting away in the corner of a field.

what would a Z car be registered under? also minis being taken of the road to be raced! and the older ones are exported each year! but i just feel honoured now to be one of those few people to have a mini! also there are so many minis being "broke" for spairs now! i think the number will drop, and then even out a bit, as the projects are finished, and unofrtunatly the odd one or two that get written off/stolen and burnt out!

full list of UK mini production from the updated version of the chris rees book >_<

Thanks Anorak for updated worldwide production figures , does the updated version of the book still also include a list of UK only Mini sales from 1994 to 2000?
(I need these to enable Practical Classics to calculate more accurate percentage figures of UK Minis surviving, as the mag seems to have paid for some access to the SMMT / DVLA database for this kind of research for articles.)
