I drove home from Lichfield a fortnight ago without a bonnet for various reasons.

passed 5 police cars - 3 in lichfield town centre - not even a raised eyebrow.

Going on from what Martin just said.....

Its down to the coppers at the end of the day, yes you can get away with alot in a mini because everyone loves em but luck plays a part aswell.

This is from the London run I did last year (Aaron) I think his name is ran all day from his homeplace to london stayed all day ran through london and back home and nothing was said, but then his car looked the part aswell :)

Surely it's going to affect aerodynamics as well? I know it's not going to make a massive difference with a Mini, but wouldn't the bulkhead catch the wind resistance like parachute?

I've seen it done in photography shoots of retro cars in magazines, but yeah I guess it's just common sense you're gonna get pulled!

& it'd massively increase airflow, only benefit.

Retro cars do it all the time in there photoshoots but they seem like private roads?

It wont do your Aero any good either, like driving an F1 car without a nose cose, the amount of aero aids is obviously different in comparison but having a big gap would manipulate the air flow so much, on drag minis you will notice the front splitter which "re-maniplutes" the air flow so that driving with-out a bonnet doesnt affect the stability too much.

yeah that looks ace like that ;)
even got reg on intercooler!!!

i didnt just mean bugs in the vw scene with no bonnets get afew newer show worthy cars that do it to show off the engines n look abit hotroddish i guess

well im sure ill just av to see what happens n i doubt they could be that cruel could they? do me for dangerous driving?

what about all these hot rods with exposed engines n wheels with no arches???

mind u,i got driving without due care and attention for being along side some1 at a junction that wasnt marked as two seperate lanes even though it was wide enough for four cars!!

u see all manners of sheds on the road n nobody bats an eye lid but when uve got a load exhaust your an instant target for em,just aint right

as for turbulence in the engine bay,the air wouldnt recirculate as theres the wind chill cooling the engine down and the hot air in the bay would just escape allowing the cooler air in would it not???

ill see if i can get hold of a bonnet n mess it up n see how it looks but i just dont think its suit my car with chick wire,if was cammo like what he said then u could pull it off

I don't think it'd pass an MoT on the sharp edges point. You also don't want to risk a dangerous driving charge, it's about as serious a motoring offence as you can commit because it involves intent. To make the air go through the radiator you need the pressure on the engine side of it to be higher than that under the nearside wing, the whole engine bay acts like a giant airbox that's stuffed with air through the grille as you drive along.

On top of that it would cost a fortune in stolen plug leads unless you were prepared to remove them yourself every time you parked up.

no i dont think it would pass an mot if bonnet was missing but if it was only for a blast out to my mates house or to a pub up the lakes im sure itd be ok

n dont really have much in the way of high crime around here or my mates house where the car might be left but its allways in back of your mind people tinkering with your mini in middle of the night

i sometimes remove the coil lead if leave i leave it some place dodgy

to be honest mate, a car without a bonnet is gonna attract all kinds of attention no matter where you live.

Cheesed off neighbour may 'relieve' himself on your engine or even worse.....spit!

If its a quick blast fair enough, but I certainley wouldn't leave it overnight like that.
