So there used to be a pinned link in the technical section under the title of "Need a Haynes Manual ?
which lead to "This isn't is but might help" etc., etc.,
So where's that gone - and why ?

It hasn't vanished. There was about 5 different topics all talking about sources of Mini technical information, so they've all been merged into one.
