Had a go with the nitromors today, got 99% of the paint off the subframe, also bought some white, yes white smooth hammerite to paint it with. Saw a white powdercoated subframe before and liked the look of it so I'm just doing the cheap option

Also in today's news, looks like I have a job, starting tomorrow, hopefully it'll go ok and I'll have some money to spend on the mini!

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

More money for minis is always a good direction to take!

As you can see from the mess below, I knocked over a tin of paint. But I also got the subframe painted. It still needs a bit more on it, but I do like it in white. I have to admit the amount of runs is shameful but, I was just slapping it on thick.

Thanks guys, no progess as had a weeks holiday in the UK with the family. I've come back with a cold too so progress will be limited!

Thanks for the encouragement, as far as cleaning the subframe goes, I'd recommend paint stripper over a wire brush attachment any day =) But I'd still rather have someone else do it for me

Picture looks a bit messy but, one more thing done! Welded in the fuel tank bracket, test fitted the tank there too and it's nice and secure. Think I'll add some foam on the arch though when it goes in finally.

Check out what's lurking under my mini!

Getting that bolted on was a big milestone for me as the subframe was the reason for the MOT failure.

It still needs more paint but I'll do that whilst it's on the car

Don't know what to do next lol. Need to go and buy some nuts n bolts, some fuel line, grommets etc.

Paint subframe some more

Maybe start doing some filling to get the shape right on the blanked fuel hole.

Would it not be an idea to ensure that all the holes are clear of paint to ensure that all the bolts fit correctly?

Excellent as ever Dave- have you considered welding as more of a hobby? If you have the enthusiasm, a lifetime of classic cars awaits you!!!

Is that a job offer? lol

My first job was as an apprentice at Trinity Engineering, an Aston Martin specialist. Only worked on cars from a db2/4 to a v8 so all classics.

Did very little fabrication there though so just bought a welder and quit my job lol.

I'd like to get a TIG welder as it seems like there's more control, not used one though.

I understand you're in the trade of restoring classics aren't you Boycie?

Not yet, havent found any time for it lately, and going away this weekend.

I spent an hour or so last night fitting rear hi los on the other mini so I could put some more people in the car without grounding out lol. That's about it!

I'll try get something done next week.

Oh and I spent last saturday welding up my friends exhaust lol, the pipe on his e30 sheared off the manifold to downpipe flange whilst ragging it around the ring!

I'm waiting to see some finished doors rosco >_<
