Me like!! Your getting on well. Which wheels are you going to use? Will you paint it red? How will you attach the front to your fabby opening mechanism. Would it be strong enough if you bonded it on or will you need to bolt it? Would be very cool with an internal release. id love to see a vid of it opening when you get it all fixed up.

Cheers mate, I've got a full set of revolutions just still working on the front so wont fit them yet.

going to bond something I can bolt to on the underside of the bonnet. Hopefully will get round to a cable release :mrcool: but more importantly I need to figure out a latch at the front and something to locate it in the a panels.

About the paint, I don't know if it needs to be red to match dvla details? Also worried that these changes might require an sva, really dont know lol - winging it.

Mine was grey before the rebuild. I just painted it red and filled in the bit on the V5 which relates to the colour, 2 weeks later and I get a new V5 showing the car as red. A wee solenoid bolt with a switch on the dash? Would save a lot of faffing with cable release stuff.

Solenoid is a nice idea. With this fancy bonnet n stuff I kinda feel like one of those chavs who glasses side skirts on over the rust sorta thing - because I'm pimping out my filthy unfinished car lol :mrcool:

Bit annoyed with the fit of the front, it's not wide enough. I'm begining to dislike fibreglass!

So does it fit yet? Did you weld the bits to the A panels to force the fiber glass wider? or did you cut it down the middle and make it wider that way? Im not sure I would have the Gonads to cut it..

Fits pretty well, needs pulling out a bit but apparently I can do that with a heat gun. I hadnt shaved enough off the back, that was why it was horrendously bad before, doh!

didnt want to weld anything on just yet as I want to put a bit more thought into it. Instead I just drilled some holes down the a panel and screwed some wood on ^^

Hopefully make a lot more progress this weekend, I think I'll get round to the first gas assisted flip up at least :)

Really excited now, think this might work.

I did a test run earlier - soaked a sponge in resin and let it set. It took form of the metal I squeezed it into and set pretty hard.

The front is on the car at the moment I'm waiting for the sponge molds to set :)

Stuck on with sponges Lol.

It doesn't flip itself as the hinges aren't at the right angle, it bows the front as it goes up - hopefully I'll get round to spacing it out and adjusting it properly. If all else fails I'll just have to get some stronger struts! So no killing pidgeons just yet...

I need to do some more trimming at the back so that it doesn't bind at the bottom, but it doesn't need too much encouragement so not bad for a first go :)

Thanks to my Dad for a helping hand today =)

Although I spent most of the weekend on the car I've not got that much to show for it. I spaced the hinges with ground down penny washers rather crudely, but it moves much more easily. Also trimmed more.. yes more off the back. Going for a nice even 5mm gap to provide enough clearance for the movement - bit big but no bigger than any other panel gap on a mini. Dad and I built a drip tray out of scraps in the garage and some plastic sheeting, I then got scrubbing with some degreaser on the engine. That thing was filthy, and still is to an extent! But at least I can see some yellow now when I flip the top.

=)

Nice work on the flip front. Have you set yourself a completion date? I know minis are never really finished......MOT soon?
