As the title suggests, I'm having a think about LED side lights.
In fact, I'm considering LED indicators, repeaters, brake lights and so on if possible.

Has anyone got some?
Where from and what were the problems you faced?

I don't see that it should be so much of a drama?

Cheers!

As far as i know mate, they arnt road legal (wont be stopping me though)

and if you go for the LED indicators you will need to get a different flasher relay.

those would be the only two issues that i know are issues.

the other thing is that they arnt as clear from certain angles on the brake lights, but im not sure if this is true for all of them.

let me know how u get on mate as i am planning on doing this my self, (save all them watts for the spot lights)

Well, that's a fairly major stumbling block if they're not legal! B*gger.

they must be legal, the stuck up snobs that drive their audi's have LED lights...the ones that blind you and the ones that they have switched on during the day and blind you in your mirrors. those ones.

audi got them E-marked tho, all the after market ones arnt E marked thats what makes them illegel, not that fact that they are LED's.

This looks promising:
http://www.autobulbs...-12v-c-269.html

These guys sell:

Mini sidelights are 233 bulbs - white or amber.
Front indicators are 207 bulbs - white or red. (Shame no amber for clear lenses).
Brake lights are 380 - lots of options.
Rear indicator is 382 - amber

So it looks good.
I need to check out the actual correct bulbs that I have in the car, but it looks mostly doable.

If not cheap.

What makes the illegal isn't whether or not they are E-marked, it's that the lamps you are putting them into are only E-marked for use with a filament bulb. The entire lamp gets its approval as a unit, including the bulb that is in it. By putting a different type of bulb in you break the approval of the lamp. Lamps designed for LEDs that have passed their tests with LEDs fitted are a different thing altogether.

As said above the angles of view are drastically different for some of the cheaper LED bulbs and that can be very dangerous. Also as above the front and rear indicators are the same, you haven't looked up the lamps for a new MINI have you?

ive done all my lights (exept side repeater and reverse lamps as i dont have them!!)... fiting one pair of led bulbs to the indicator circuit was fine but both ends caused me a head ache, i had to fit resistors to the circuit after the flasher unit so that they flashed in time!! summin to do with the led's requiring les power...

the ones helfrauds sell come with the resistors to put in the wiring, which is handy. ive got them fitted in mine, also changed the brake lights for led's as well. they passed the mot with no problems (ive even got the jewel style rear lenses fitted) and they actually stand out better in low light then the standard coloured lenses and bulbs.

ive fitted wipac clear form headlights with led sidelights. I got the led's off ebay, not very expensive. I think they look quite cool too, and when ive got my headlights on they look kinda like HID headlights (halfords upgrade light bulbs).

It defeats the object a bit if you use resistors as you'll just be using the power to heat the resistor instead. A better solution would be to use an electronic flasher unit.
