I just can't believe how tidy your garage is?!??! It's a wonder you get anything done other than tidying!
Its not always like that, just had to give it a clean out to accept the painted shell back in for reassembly, it looked a tip only a few weeks ago!!!
Also had a sort out of all the bits left over and stuff i dont need so will be up on e-bay in the next few weeks.
Cheers

Couldn't agree with Ade more! Most people never recover fully after venturing into my garage- most can still be found dribbling, sat rocking back and forth on the floor, with a vacant expression. I'm gonna join 'em soon, as I'm now in the middle of a kitchen re-model which means my mini has to go on hold for a few weeks :'(

What are the basic pros and cons? The price on the web site, says self built kit for around £6300 for the kit, surely that cant include the engine aswell?
Do you get cheaper road tax?
sorry all these q's but they been buging me!

Ok im thinking about doing one of these... as it looks cheeper than what i wanted to do originally, especially to for the performance.

I suppose it's theoretically possible to build a Z-cars mini for £6,300, but I can guarantee you'll spend more. Just the "majors" add up to more than that:
Kit - circa £5k
Engine (if R1) circa £1k
Paint (at least) £1k
Wheels/tyres £500
Seats (at least) £550.
I reckon most Z-car mini owners on here, despite living in denial (myself included- I daren't look at all the receipts!) have invested way in excess of £10k on their projects. It depends how you look at it as to whether this is expensive or not. I never set out to build a mini for mini's sake. I set out to build a fast, fun, cheap (for the performance on offer) weekend/trackday toy- the fact that it looks like a mini and feels like a mini is a very big bonus for me.
As for cheaper road tax- that would depend on the year of the car you use as a donor. If it's pre 1973 then road tax is free
There's talk on one of the project pages about a guy in Coventry who's designing his own bike engined mini spaceframe and is planning on selling it for half the price of Chris Allanson's kits- might be worth a look.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do......

Other ideas were a brand new mini sport engine, or 16v head, or bill richards, but i think i am correct in saying for performance, and sheer fun (RWD) z-cars is the only way?
I have more faith in this z-car idea for me than my friends... (1.8 TD escort engine in a mini van????? dunno what possesed him to think that up!)
cheers for advice any who!!!
Who knows in a few yrs time i may be driving about in one!
Sorry just before i steal the thunder of the post - Lovely car, great example of a mini, well done!
couldnt agree with you more willy
Was going for your name (D**K) sorry, word filter!
