This happend when i brought my mini, i got a receipt and the number plates with the car but no logbook, and no chassis number in scuttle as mines a 1979, but all i did was gather as much imformation about the car, and filled out most of the v62 with what i knew, and 2 months later i get the logbook and all the information i needed.
As well if you do get a new logbook with the chassis number, you will have to get a new plate made up, because if not it will fail an m.o.t, for not displaying it,
It happend to me only thing my mini failed on after a 14 month rebuild.

Have you got the number plates????
Did you get a receipt????
Is the commission number still on the right hand inner wing?????
If yes to all of these, fill out the v62 form and send it off.

If you've got the green new keepers bit, then that's all you need, go with that and a V62 to the DVLA office and they'll do it all for you.. and it won't cost you a penny...

Didnt get time to get one made up, as i got told it would take 2 weeks, so in the end i had it engraved into my bonnet slam panel, and smeared some grease over it to prevent rusting.
This was only meant to be temporaraly to get an m.o.t, but still havent had proper one made yet.

I have just been investigating the same thing but for an April 1960 Mini which we have been offered, the current owner threw out the vin plate by accident when he removed the front end, the only identifying factor left on the Mini is the body number. But he had an old style V5 and a "British Motor Industry Heritage Trust" Certificate from the early 1990's, all the details on this matched the details on the old V5 except the reg mark,... SO I decided it best to do lots of investigation.

I found that I could have a new "British Motor Industry Certificate" issued in my name See Here, Heritage Motor Center . I then spoke to the DVLA and they told me the original reg was now a private reg on a different car and the reg on the V5 was correct but the year of manufacture was unknown,... I explained I wanted it registered as a 1960 as I had proof of this,... I was told I needed to take this certificate along with the old style V5 i have down to the local DVLA office and fill in the V62 form.

So I would imagine if you get a "British Motor Industry Certificate" (which will have on it the VIN number, Body number, Colour, Interior colour, Date of production, Date of registration etc) and take this down to your local DVLA office with the V62 form you should be okay in sorting out your registration

they can only do upto 69

What do you mean??

I have a certificate in a previous owners name from 1991 I emailed them about getting a new one in my name (well my dads) and they said no problem just needed to send them a photocopy of the old certificate seeing how it would be a renewal, as they wouldn't have the info off a 1991 certificate on their computer system so would be easier for them if I sent a copy of the old one off to them. ;D

Yes it's true, during the Leyland period there was very little record keeping at any of the factories. That's why things like change points for equipment used on the cars are very hard to accurately identify. Between 1969 and about 1986 there is very little for Heritage to go on and they are very reluctant to give out certificates.

What you have said is illegal, its called a ringer. If you get caught, you can have the car crushed and get prosecuted. Do you have the original reg number? If you do, PM me and I can try to get it off our computer at work tomorrow....

MiniMail supply chassis plates and stamp them with your number if you provide your Registration Document as proof of ownership:-
