Hi

I have done a search but can't find anything relating to it.

I want to change the steering wheel on my MPi car but can't find a boss that will fit. I called Mini Spares but they couldn't help either.

Has anyone changed the steering wheel?

I'm not sure you can change it due to there being an Airbag incoporated in it?

You can change it by taking the whole unit off.

Motolita on a sportspack. Not mine, and I don't know how it was done! Sorry!

I can deactivate the airbag, it's just finding a boss and steering wheel that will fit. If not then I may have to change the steering column.

Thanks for that. I'll give Motolita a call see if they have a boss that will fit.

Edit: Wood & Pickett do a complete airbag model boss. Now I can have a nice steering wheel woo hoo :proud:

Wood and Pickett sell the boss, also just look for anywhere that sells a boss for an MGF steering wheel as its the same one as the MPi

There was a kit advertised in the last miniworld for changing a stock wheel to a motalita one, one that bypasses the airbag light aswell.

A boss for an Mgf or MgTf as they share the same wheel.

As ststated above W&p sell a kit but its quite exensive and i think its only for motilita/mountney style centred wheels

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think that Rover 200/25/200 van/25 van/MG ZR/MG ZR van/Streetwise... ( i think that's all the rebadged ones) use the same wheel as the MGF/TF

Thanks for the help guys. It does seem like the Rover 200 derivatives all share the same column. I now have a good couple of options thanks to W & P and the ebay link. I really wanted the Lita wheel but now I've seen a nice Momo one, decisions decisions.

how about trying a universal steering boss adapter for an MGF/TF from say Halfords or somewhere? Might make it easier to find a wheel?

There are two main types of fitments on the bosses;

the first is the mountney/motlita style which has a larger mounting ring with 8 fixing bolts normally. this is usually for more classic style wheels that are commonly seen in minis.

the other type has a smaller mounting ring and has 6 fixing bolts and is the type most commonly seen on after market steering wheels for more modern cars. common manufacturers include momo, sparco, omp, isotta, e-tech

Halfrauds/Rip -off-speed sell the bosses (or can order one in but theyre usually quite expensive.)

for the more modern type try ebay, demont tweeks or after market parts suppliers.

As above you need one for the mgf/mgtf or similar rover series cars that have the horn in the wheel itself.

The kit should come with the rota wheel terminals for the horn connections (so the wire dont get twisted when you turn the wheel - works simlar to the gyro brake system on bmx bikes)
