PREP! As above,
But in reality spray cans never really give out Much paint or any decent coverage, this could prove a bit of a nightmare when you come to final flatting & polishing
you could always invest in a cheap compressor n spray gun you will probably find the costings much the same as buying a whole load of cans.
And again PREP!!!!!
Take your time with repairs and the sanding, then when its painted take your time with the flatting n polishing,
Research - Learn - do.
Hope that in some small way helps.

im doing teh same but i got a compressor and sparey gun to do my top coats and finish coat.
if you go halfords they will make a pot of paitn up for you in the colour you want, or they can put it in a can if you wanted it like that.
but take your time and dont rush prep every thing, as the smallest of thing shows up and make sure you have plenty of lighting as well, as you can sometimes miss things.

This is only really true of cheap cans of paint - this type of can gets filled with a lot more proppelant than paint so it feels quite full but the coverage is poor. If you get paint mixed up and put into rattle cans by a proper paint shop you will find that coverage is actually quite good and that the nozzles available give very good results!
