Check the voltage across the lamp when its on. Its possible that you have wired 2 lamps in series. ie. indicator lamp with switch indicator lamp

Or it could be you have wired the switch indicator lamp in series with the relay.

Have you previously had the hazards working on the mini?

Are you using a hazard flasher unit? They're different to indicator flashers.

No. How many 21 watt bulbs are there in your hazard circuit? The right one will say '12v 21w x 4' plus some amount of 5 watt bulbs that isn't very relevant.

i would like to say thanks to dan and others who has post some advice on what the problem could be..got it sorted out today...it was the relay!...i told the guy at the shop and he said they are all the same but i did a bit of homework too and it seems to be that the 12v 21w x 2 +5 is for the later models with injection as the unit shares with the indicators? anyway i hope this topic will help others...thanks again

A flasher marked '21 watt x 2 + 5' is only ever going to be for indicators. Later Minis do use a single unit for both but it's an electronic unit not a bi-metal flasher.

No problem. A combined unit will always be electronic, look more like an actual relay and will say on it something like "21w x 2 + 5 / 21w x 4 + 5". It might even say something about being used for towing, in which case it would drive up to 6 lamps in hazard mode and 3 as an indicator. They will always be marked for both indicator and hazard loading though.

Hi,

Have just read this with interest as my hazards are not working either! lol

I have a couple of questions if anyone can help?

1 - How do I test the relay to see if that is the problem? (it looks ancient so could well be it)
2 - Where can I purchase a new relay? Are they a 'Halfords' type product or more specialist?
3 - If it isn't the relay, what else could it be? I've checked all the fuses I can find and they all seem fine. Also the indicators are working fine. If it's the rocker switch how would I know that?

Thanks,
Andrew.

Don't buy a flasher unit from Halfords as their notoriously bad. I got a new one from Somerford recently and that's still working fine.

Does your interior lamp work? If it doesn't, then it could be one of the in-line fuses as the interior lamp and hazard lights run on the same circuit.

aye, the interior light is working fine!
(the horn isn't working either, but I think that's on a seperate fuse anyway?)
thanks for the advice regarding halfords! The main reason for suggesting there was that I was hoping to do it tomorrow - but maybes better ordering a more reliable one and having to wait a couple of days!

thanks,

Andrew
