Hey guys, my friend has got a problem with his mini when he accelerates. We have checked the points, plugs, dizzy in general, carb for leaks ( and swapped the cab for one that we know works). The mini is a 998, stage one fitted, with a break servo. We have made the obvious checks, to us, but cant seem to solve the problem. Anyone got any ideas or had a similar problem? I thought possibly an air leak in the servo somewhere may cause the power decrease when accelerating? or a dodgy fuel pump but how do you test it?
cheers
Luke

Have you checked the oil level in the carb damper?

check the above for sure.,... have you thought about checking the float chamber needle valve? if this gets gunged up you wont get enough fuel running to the carb.
Also just read that you've swapped the carb for one you know works - what engine did it come from? The needle is unlikely to be correct for your engine
And just read that you fitted a stage 1 kit.,.. have you had this set-up on a rolling road? -> This is vital to getting it running well and it's unlikely the car will run well without it - this could actually damage your engine.

dash pot oil has been checked and is fine! the car was running fine and then all of a sudden it started playing up. the stage one has been fitted for ages, before my mate owned it, and that is all fine. the other carb came off a 998 engine to so that shouldn't be a problem. the engine ticks over ok, it is just when you want to accelerate it dosent really want to.

Just because the 2nd carb came off a 998 also, doesn't mean it was set up correctly for your engine.
Stage 1 kits require a richer needle for the carb.
So unless the 2nd carb had the same needle it wouldn't have worked right.
When you say it doesn't want to accelerate does it feel lumpy and sound rough, or is just flat ??

right well maybe put the other carb back on then.
It just sounds flat, and runs on sometimes when stopped.

If you've got a timing gun, then check the timing, wants to be about 5 degrees BTDC @ 1000 rpm with vacuum pipe disconnected.
