Mini City 1992

As with many mini owners i've seen post this topic before, but i still need specific information. My hazards don't work, when the switch is half way down the switch flashes rapid with no response from the actual indicators, fully down and no lights are on but the relay buzzes (rather than clicks) strangely this seems to be the relay for the indicator as pose to the hazard relay?? ie the relay under the steering column, looking at other posts the hazard relay is supposedly in the engine bay next to the wiper motor but all i can see is a four pin relay not the two pin one. Does this sound like someone has wired the two together? I' ve swaped out the hazard switch, no joy, and the indicator relay but this seemed the wrong type and burned it self out :D

To summarise hazards - nothing but funny noises from indicator relay. Indicators - go left but not right (even though the relay clicks for right without lights, save the wing light ticks v. dimly)

Just replace the hazard warning light flasher unit and indicator flasher unit and then see how you get on?

Went through a couple of relays, which worked, briefly; then blew so got round to replacing the indicator unit, which looked OK but turned out to have some "interesting" wiring behind it. Problem solved. Seems the indicator unit was causing an intermittent short hence the blown relays. One thing of note, it seems i only have the one relay, ie one used for both indicating and hazards, which is contrary to what I've read else where, minis eh? got to love them. :D

Yes I thought it was only the injection Minis that got the combined flasher unit, or at least the post 1992 1275cc engined non-Coopers?

Seems a quite strange motor I've got, it is a 1992 Mini City E 998, but changed to a cooper look alike, would be nice to know exactly its meant to have in it. Even has a Hiff44 carb dont know if thats standard or not, thought they were only fitted to Post 1990 Coopers and Post 1992 1275 models? Go fig, minis :)

Well a 1992 Mini City (the 'E' had been dropped by then) would have come with a HS4 carburettor as standard.

Yes only the 1990/91 Rover Mini Cooper got the HIF44 carb, before going fuel injected in October 1991, but the post 1992 1275 Minis got the HIF38.

So someone's been changing things on your Mini City me thinks?

Yep well looking thru the paper work and looking at the engine number seems to have a metro lump in, at least thats what i can gather, got 56,000 on the clock but seems it passed that mark in 99/00 so i reckon its actually 156000. I hear A+ are usually got for a 100,000 then bang, at least my last mini did. Happily all the VIN and log book details match up so doesn't look too untoward
>_<
