ok here we go.... as most say - your car is, well yours, so it yours to do what you like. BUT IMO i think most mods are reversable! so will not ruin the car completly, but i do hate it when some people make minis look stupid or cut up a perfectly good shell, and i think most are agreed if you have a mk1/2 it would be fround upon to mod it. performance wise, im looking to put a turbo in mine, yes, so i can go faster but from the outside you are not going to know because im gonna keep it classic looking and i think this is the general thing at the mnute people dont want there mini to look like a g-boy machine they want it to look like a mini...their mini, so i think its more of a NZ thing. hope that made sense

and im 20

so i shouldnt have put an R1 mini in my mini when i was 20 because it had already been done?

Notice that i wrote 'my mini' suggesting that it has nothing to do with you, and i can do what i want to it.

I think if you had a ride in any of the itterations to my mini you would *melon* yourself. and maybe understand why people do it.

Infact, if people didnt do it in the first place, it wouldnt have become a rally legend would it, you saying john cooper was a chav? how about richard longman? because there all doing the same thing. And considering my dad was doing it to his 850 mini back in 1964 then why is this a new thing to the 'kids of today'? Its part of what a mini is, all through the mini's life it has been the car to tinker with.

I own my mini, and i can do whatever i want to it.

Oh by the way, those of you that moan at high insurance costs....

In NZ you do not need to have insurance by law. It is only 'suggested'.

Currently only 48% of cars have at least third party insurance (in nz).

I am one of those who do not have any insurance at the moment - my risk I know, but finances do not stretch to something I have only needed once in 11 years of driving!

..k, back on topic now :w00t:

Do u have any pics of your mini mate, it looks really nice from that pic and I was thinking of getting circles on my doors too.

here you go: caution though it is modified and has speakers inside :dontgetit:
the door circles are specials I had made with a local sign writing company with the cooper laurel on them in white reflective, can't be seen during the day but at night really stand out. unfortunately at this precise moment she has no front end on and very little paint trying to cut out the rust (typical mpi lol)

i am a young'un and i own a mini, i have seen alot of 'modified' minis but i dont see them as ruining the mini i see them creative bits of genious, and think to do something like that is really clever, for example engine conversions imo to do an engine conversion so that the mini would cope is amazing..
us young'uns can do what we want to our mini to make them stand out like its my mini, so we could pour our passion and heart and soul into it, we do this with every intention of keeping the mini brand alive.
i have read quite a few posts on here it does seem most of the young'uns are only modifying the mini to cope with faster traffic and thus being safe on the road.??

great topic by the way

surely fixing rusty bodywork is a modification, re-spraying it, changing the head so it can run on unleaded, puting brighter headlights, better brakes, better tyres.

to be honest if there was no modifications and it stayed as it came out of the factory, there would be no minis left because noone would buy them. Its what attracts people to minis, they are so very customisable, unreliable too quite often, but they are a proper car that can be changed to your taste.

I'm 20, ive had 2 mini's my mums got a mini, some of my mates want minis. yes i have a 2" DTM exhaust, yes i have 4 pot calipers, adjustable suspension, bodykit, wider wheels, better lights..... but it makes it MY mini, noone elses and saying us young'uns ruin them is just utter trash, what about the pople that let them sit in their garage for years, coming out a few times a year for shows, and being trailered there THAT is ruining a mini by not actualy useing it for its purpose.

as for hikeing our insurence up, dont you think 2 grand is high enogth to be charged? or would you like it to be up at the 10k mark, or maybe all us young'uns should just ignore all our personalitys and become boring gits who get up, work, go home sleep asif we were under some dictatorship regiem???

rant over :w00t:

take the air filter housing of, it there are 2 injections its MPI, one its SPI

mpi also has front radiator, no distributor and the oil filter screws into the front of the block rather than into a vertical housing

Wwwoooooooooooooowzers guys. Cool it down a bit, strip it back, think about what is ACTUALLY happening on the mini scene.

Today's young uns are tomorrow's old uns! When I was 18, I had a mini city E that had been chopped into a convertible, fitted with an ERA bodykit, had twin carbs on it and was ridiculously noisy, it was also poo brown :w00t:

It's called fun, it's what's keeping the mini scene alive and it's what's always kept the mini scene alive.

IMO, cars like Alex's are awesome, but no more or less awesome than one like mine, or one like yours, just awesome in a different way. It's all about whatever floats your boat isn't it??? Fact of the matter is, at least someone's doing something with a mini and paying interest in the scene.

Go back to the 70s and 80s and look at how many minis were ruined then. Look at all the MKIs that were fitted with MKII lights to make them look better. It's a scene that evolves and isn't to everyone's taste, but at least people are here, now, talking about minis!

You don't get this kind of group spirit with many other cars you know.
