Well, this is why I'm tagging along unofficially (not going anywhere the general public can't go, after all) rather than taking a place up on the run. As far as I know, I'm not getting a run pack or parade laps, I'm just getting on the same ferry as all of you, driving the same route, and camping on the same site. And I'm bringing Bec! Now where's the harm in that? Alternatively, if someone wants to pay for the upkeep of a retro car for me I'll gladly bring it

Edit: Sorry if this comes across as arsey, I feel the need to defend myself though and the 306 is a future classic and full of character (French electrics! )

Hi Guys n Gals,

Friends of Phil W with the Ubber?? Mk1 Thought i'd best say Hi as it looks like we should be joinin you from sunny Bristol, Myself Russ N and Nick D currently known as Nick R. Probably with our usual bunch of nutter mates. Since sending off his deposit and it being accepted he has relised the errors of his ways (ie Prehaps not so Retro, but indeed a future gem.) Nick will still be attending in his vechile but is prepared to help out, hang back, passenger rides, anything to help the smooth running of the event. As it has been explained to him that there may be the odd mini with a discruntled look on his face...



Anywho...I've noticed on the confirmed list that Nick D has changed to Nick R, and that my escort and suddenly aged 20 years over night!!





His baby bro on the right sadly is no longer with us, to those that knew him he was a good laugh. RIP Festa.


Hope that clears a few things up.

What do we do in the mean time?? All build nice new engines ready for some ring bashing!!

Well, I've updated the list to change Nick's details, to be honest I didn't know the age of your car as the details aren't on the form, it just said Ford Escort WRC.

I think we need to work on the definition of 'retro' though for next year as it's different in everyone's minds.

as time moves on todays cars will become retro lol, but not if Gordon brown and the Euro crats have anything to do with it grrrrrrr

As a true retro nut, i agree however all coming own or would like to own a retro motor, and lets face it with 5 mk1 astra's going we are gonna need some slightly more modern motors to tow us the rest of the way lol.

No offence meant but appart from cosmetics did ford actually do any major changes to the escort after the launch of the Mk3, they were very good at facelifts and bottoxed them up. But as russ is a young man having a car older than the years he has been able to drive constitutes retro to him bless. it is after all 17/18years old, way past the age governments want a car crushed. keep telling him he wants a mk1 astra tee hee. need to persuade him to take the Rocco 1984 master piece ( because its slower than my Astra and he will be quicker in the scort). but dont tell him thats the reason why.

Sorry Phil, I've just realised that it reads like I'm saying that the Escort specifically wasn't really retro, I meant it as more of a general statement to be honest.

IMO, the list of cars that are coming is great. It was more a comment that we (organisors) need to give more of a definition as to what's retro and what's not.
