Looking to fit 3rd brake light, but the myriad of choice is a little confusing. Any suggestions from the knowledgable people on here? It's not the fitting, just the different types. Which are the most effective and of course, value for money.
thanks

Mark.

Late model Minis were fitted with a high level rear brake lamp. It was positioned on the bottom of the rear parcel shelf stuck to the window glass.

Personally I would avoid the LED versions. They just tend to look out of place on a mini. The older 'box with a bulb' units suit the mini better. Oh and I notice a lot of cars that have 'duff' LED's - they look terrible when one or two LED's burn out !

Lots of people fit high level brake lights to their Minis. Most types will do, I have a long LED light mounted in the bottom of the rear window. Better to fit them at the top, but I was lazy and didn't want to faff around hiding wires :)

If the LEDs are correctly fitted with the appropriate resistors in their circuit then there is no reason why they should burn out... they usually have a VERY long life expectancy!

Fitted one a couple of weeks ago - http://www.theminifo...x...=111932&hl=.

I looked at fitting at the top and bottom of the screen and felt the bottom was best as it involved less messing with wires and also, with it at the top it was in line of sight when using rear view mirror (at the bottom it isn't).

Pukka(?) rear screen with 3rd brake light on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.u...em=280309882632

Link to where I got it - http://cgi.ebay.co.u...e...A1|240:1318

I’ve fitted one at the top of the screen in the 25, was about a fiver from a local parts places discount bin. It would have been easier to mount onto the parcel shelf but I didn’t want it to be visible. Which is why I modified the bracket/mount slightly and stuck at the top of the screen.

This is an essential mod in my opinion - Mini lights are so 'low' nowadays compared to modern, taller cars, and anything to get the attention of the driver behind you and save your pride and joy from being rear-ended is priceless! I have the same type as Leonie, the genuine Rover one from Minispares is great and doesn't look too out of place, even on an older Mini.
