I'm sorted this time round.

Having just been posted to Germany with the army I get fuel coupons. They cost about 40p a litre. But they are only valid in Germany. And I should be back the week before the trip as I intend going to the Leeds festival again, so Im going to grab a big army jerry can for my fuel all the way back.

Also on the plus side, when yoou come over here with the Army they make you do a matrix test - basically a European theory test. Rather useful, as I know what a lof of the signs mean now.

Yeah, IIRC, I set off with a tank full of fuel, topped up before I got to Brands and then still had a half tank when I got to the campsite. So that'd equate to about £60 in the Rocco from memory. But that does get 45+mpg on the motorways.

That was even after the hour I spent in Charleroi causing havoc on the streets, looking for somewhere to eat, getting lost and then going to an off-license! =]

yup mines just about the same. In the nissan it has always been 4 full tanks for the entire trip including ring laps, driving about, etc.

Budget £200 for fuel and you'll be fine. You'll either get back ok, or suprisingly have enough left over for a slap up meal on the ferry. :D

EDIT - I'm also travelling from cornwall.

chaps, what company are the petrol stations out there?

Will we be able to get Shell V-power close to the ring? My 1380 only really runs on 99ron fuel with an added octane boost/lead replacement too.

the ring garage as its become known does super unleaded high octane as had to use it to fill up race preped car hired last year and you see all the top cars filling up there

is the nearest garage to the ring and sells everything from pertol to posters ,model cars ,jackets even ring shaped pasta

what sort of compression/timings are you running on the 1380 prawn? thats pretty intense fuelling.

I did find increased levels in knock when i using their regular 98, it may have been due to the weather at the time also. Thats when i started carrying octane booster as a precaution.

I'm not actually running mega compression really Dave, only around 11:1.

It's running that fuelling because I've always run all my cars on V-power, and my 37x30 head doesn't have enough room for hardened seats, so it's leaded. most lead replacement additives are also an octane booster. It went to the rollers with that fuel, and was setup accordingly. I think total advance was around 38-40 degrees at full throttle top end.

Glad to hear you can get decent fuel over at the ring, I thought you must be able to, I'd just not heard it mentioned before!
