If you have a 1275 engine then the HIF44 will work fine, its a bit much for smaller engines.
If your manifold has 2 bolts only for a HS4 then you will need to buy a manifold with 4 bolts for your HIF.
Try to discover what car it has come off of, if its a 1275 similar to yours it should bolt on and work.
If not known you need to take it to pieces and check/replace the needle with one suitable to your car. If you buy a needle, buy a gasket set as well and do a good clean up whilst your at it.
PM me if you need more about this, my typing is 2 fingered......

Thanks, you misunderstood me, I have the HIF44 manifold, gaskets, spacer etc as I thought I was getting a HIF44 - I bought the bits separately. It's all sorted now, HS4 is going back and a HIF44 is on the way. I refurbed my twin HS2s and have spent months tryign to get them to work, so i know my way around carbs etc, so think I'll be ok. I also have WinSU, so can sort out needles etc if I can't get a good setup before a RR session.

Cheers

Just to explain:

HS carbs are denoted in terms of 1" PLUS (the number in the carb name TIMES 1/8")

So - HS2 = 1+(2*1/8) = 1 1/4" carb

HS4 = 1+(4*1/8) = 1 1/2" carb

The HIF series are represented in millimeteres.

HIF38 = 38mm inlet.

1 inch = 25.4 mm or 1 mm = 0.039370 inches

38 x .03937 = 1.49606, ie 1.5"

44 x .03937 = 1.73228, or 1.75" almost).
