Evening,

I was under the impression that I wanted a HIF44, so I bought one, but a HS4 has turned up. Do I want to keep it, or should I be looking for an HIF44?

What are the technical differences, does Vizard compare carbs? Also, I have an MG Metro inlet manifold, with the four bolts holes to attach the carb, but the HS4 only has two holes - is this going to be a problem, are the carb and manifold compatible?

A HS4 is a smaller carb than a HIF44 too.

The 44 is a 1 3/4" carb, with an itegral float (44mm, Integral Float)

The HS4 has a side mounted float chamber and is a 1 1/2" carb.

What spec. car's it for?

And, if someone's sold you a HS4 instead of a HIF44, tell em and send it back!

The HIF38 is more of a comparable carb to teh HS4, as it's a 1 1/2" carb.

Integral float is the way ahead!

MG Metro 1275, standard apart from a performance exhaust. Just measured the manifold at 1.75" and the carb at 1.5". Thats no good is it! I thought the HIF44 was a modern version of the HS4, but they were the same size, you learn something new everyday!

What's the benefit of the integral float? Just interested.

Also, while I'm here, do I need a heat-shield as well as the damping spacer thing?

If you've paid for a HIF44 and got a HS4, then send it back and get your money back!

As said above, a HIF44 is a bigger carb than a HS4. You might be able to get the HS4 to work on your engine, but you really want a HIF44 as you'll get more power.

The HS6 is the old school 1 3/4" carb.

I am no expert on SUs, but I believe the integral float is better in terms of fuel starvation on cornering.

Yes, it looks that way doesn't it! Bah, was hoping to get the car to work this week! I suppose at least I won't have to go outside in the cold though!

And yes you will need the heat shield, on the HIF carbs the heat shield also as the brackets for the choke and the throttle cable.

Yeah, thats all in hand, was an honest mistake etc, not really a problem, just annoying as I wanted to get the car working asap!
