Bought a clarke engine stand from Machine Mart over the weekend. My question is, where do you attach the stand to the engine? It came with a very small leaflet with a basic exploded diagram but no explanation of how to attach the engine to it.

Hi
Well, the best and recommended method to attatch a hoist to amini engine is with special lifting brackets. These mount onto the two outer (front) cylinder head studs. First remove the nuts, place the brackets on to these.

The best method, in my opinion, of attatching the engine to the crane is with a Sykes / Pickevant bracket. The design of the bracket ensures the the power unit tilts back when it is lifted to allow the diff houseing to clear the rear of the subframe/bulkhead.

I saw this bracket on ebay, but I recommend the sykes/pickevant one as there are two lifing angles on the bracket.

Hope this helps

It is best if you make an adapter that bolts to the side of the motor using the Alternator bracket mounting holes, this way you can work on both ends of the motor. Here is a pic of the one I made:

RIGHT!

Thats it, as Adam, crusader of NOT spending money on something you DON'T need I shall now take my large rotund self out to my cold arse garage and take a picture on how to mount an engine to that fecking stand for NOTHING!

RARRGH!

*much mubling and moaning later*

Take engine stand, drill two holes in it. Job done.

So those two nuts support the entire weight of the engine?

So.... I'm resurrecting an eight year old thread because from my searches this has the best combination of information and pictures still in it.

Can anyone provide any more anecdotal evidence of using the two fuel pump bolts on the rear of the engine to support it on a stand? Is a pre A+ block strong enough to support the weight here?

The pictures above sure to make it seem like a very good option.

If I were to use the fuel pump holes, what bolts should I use? Or should I use the standard studs?

Thanks heaps for any input!
