I'm gutted I cant make this years run as turbonutters co pilot , just havnt got enough holiday left & already off to Portugal & Ibiza so funds are a bit tight too, will possibly try for next year, would still love to take my mini, will get there one day!!!

What do we think about a golf vr6 being retro? because apparently it isn't, even tho it was older than some of the mini's that came and older than my metro.
-I reckon it should be allowed - opinions?

I disagree. Mk1 or Mk2 is retro. Mk3 onwards I would still consider as contemporary.
Our mk3 Tdi is sitting outside the house at the mo. There is no way that is a retro car!!! She may be older than my mini, but she is soooooooo much more advanced.

Well they don't really look that retro to me, but if it's a case of how advanced they are in comparison to a mini then not many of the cars should be going, including mine.

I don't think technological advancement is the criterion for exclusion, otherwise mpis would be in a bit of a weird situation, wouldn't they?

The Mk3 golf is now just an ageing car. It still holds it value as an everyday family hatchback. It's not a "retro" car.

As for the run itself its a Mini / retro run...so any mini can come even if its a 2000...we just need to define Retro better for next year...

Lets not let this thread run away with itself and become something concerning and oof putting.
The staff of the run work hard and we are still in the early stages of the retro idea, we have got a good source, we have Christian from Retro classic Cars on the team
Looking forward to seeing all these cars and you lot in a matter of months, cant wait...

Yes! I think some relatively recent cars can be retro! For example a phase 3 pug 306 xsi...

It really is just a rounded version of the 205 after all...

On that basis last years RX7 must have been really really Retro!!

I'd have to say the VR6 isn't in the 'retro' category. As Juju saysm the mk1/2 golfs are retro but the mk3 onwards were modern.

As said to define retro is dificult.

Josh, the 205 is retro (in my eyes). It was an 80's hot hatch, in amongst the early golf, renault R5 Turbo, Nova and XR2's.
Personally 'Retro', to me, depends a lot on the cars style.
I think the retro look ended around 93, with a few exceptions, but then thats me

Just to put my bit thoughts on this the idea is retro, so you see the cars and you can see theryre all together, and they all have somthing in common and similar with the mini, like retro styling,
im 18, so not exactly an oldtime or anything like that, but i used to consider things like, old mg's, mini, vw bugs/ campers retro, basically anything that got abit of a admiring look when it drove past because they wernt around as much, And i appreciate that now after the milenium cars like mk1 + 2 golfs / polo's , renult 5's, Novas, Metros.

But i dont think its time for corsa's mk3 golfs/ polo's, newer pugs..
