I'm guessing you mean the 911 is the same as the Beetle... well the 911 originally developed from the 356 which was the second car designed by Ferry Porsche... niot sure what designation that one was.
And the 911 was meant to be called the 901, but Peogot (sp) said that they had the copyright on a set of 3 numbers with a '0' in the middle... so Porsche said sod you then and put a '1' in instead.

Porsche originally designed the 924 for VW to be a top model above the golf and Scirocco (if it was out then... cant remember) but VW though that it wouldn't be a successful model, so Porsche kept it and the rest is history
Who'd have thought back then that one day Porsche's dabbling in VW shares would make them the majority shareholder while at the same time, albeit temporarily, the largest car manufacturer in the world.

there was a programme on the bbc about how porsche had been playing the stock market, and had taken majority shares of VW and how they had forced the price of VW up by doing this, as they took all the available shares or something, and then sold them of at the peak of the prices making themselves loads of money in the process bla bla bla
Nope didn't see that...

The Lambourghini Miura (lambo's first supercar) was designed almost by accident, it was produced as an extra project for the sake of doing it, it just so happened that the head of Lambourghini liked the idea so much it was put into production.
Speaking of the Miura, it's got a transverse V12...an idea they niked from the mini..
Also, remember the Thrust ssc car,
well it's got 2 back wheels, one behind the other, but not in the same track. in order to test the idea the engineers got hold of a mini and cut up the rear subframe and turned it round somehow. then they stuck it out the back to see if it worked.... that mini was for sale a few years back, too
I need to get out more

Also, one of the duty engineers who used to work here, worked on the ssc too
