fords 1.25 zetec is actually built by yamaha


Not strictly true...as I heard it anyway....They are Ford engines but they are tuned by Yamaha, and are therefore more powerful than the 1.3 engines offered by Ford!



The 1.25 is a Yamaha engine, they also make some engines for Toyota!!


As is the 1.6 Zetec SE that is found in the Focus. Very good engine too!

My random fact...

A Honda Accord Type R as a 40% stiffer chassis than a non Type R Accord.

the B in the Rover P5B stands for buick as this was the first of the V8 rover engine (based on the buick small block)
and like a mini (all engines have same mounts and straight swop) the 3.5L engine can be swoped for a 5.7 (buick)

Interesting, I really didn't think the badge was still in use at that time. I suspest that it was a marketing affectation to show off rather than serious badging, people buying these cars would have remembered seeing the badge on cars with better brakes when they were younger. It might have been serious though but as said, this wasn't the first car with discs.

the mini designer was the first mini to have a vainty mirror on the drivers side as standerd.

thats the same thing. previous minis had vanity mirrors on the passanger side, the designer was the first to have one on the drivers side aswell. lol
did you know it was also the first mini with black and white seats, and designer written on it? lol

Subaru, is just a brand name. Its actually part of a subsidury called Fuji heavy industries.

The Subaru badge , consists of a constellation of 5 stars, each star representing a group member, called Pliades. Which so happens is the name of the free magazine they publish.

Subaru have release 2 marks called the P1 - one in 1954 (there first car) and the 2nd as limited edition (in partnership with Prodrive), to signify the winning of a world rally championship.

The most widely missinformed fact is that the Impreza 22b - is called so because it carries a 2.2 litre engine. It does but the real reason is......

The 22B carried its livery of 555, in its winning year, and if you change the 555 in Hexidecimal, you get..... 22B.

When Ford first released the Pinto in Brazil they had problems as it was Brazilian slang for small male genitals so the car was renamed to Corcel, which is Brazilian for Horse.


Nissan had the same problem with the Pajero in spanish speaking countrys... As Pajero means 'W@n**r' :)

What's with the 356...?

When german engineers tried to break to the rev limit of a Honda S600 engine,
they didn't blow the engine into pieces, but the dyno :lol ;)

The Cooper RSP was the first Rover with a cat.

The Mk1 Mini got it's 850 engine because engineers and Issigonis thought it was too quick with a 950 engine :(

All High performance German cars are restricted from the factory to 155mph ( most easily derestricted by removing a fuse).


Porsches aren't :(

Up until the last few years Japanese manufacturers had an amicable agreement with the government that all cars would be capped at under 300hp. Hence if you look at the stats sheet for 90s Lancer Evo, Skyline GTR, Impreza, Pulsar GTR, they all show around the same Max Power. However most cars were actually built to be much more powerful. A car magazine did a dyno run on some standard 90s Jap performance cars and they all came back over 300hp, and that was after about 5 years worth of power losses.

I believe all JDM cars are limited to 180kph too, which is why a lot of Gray Import cars need to be de-limited. I remember driving a V8 Lexus Soarer (on a private road of course) and it accelerating like a demon until it just hit a brick wall at 180kph.

Yup something like 112 mph. Had the same experience in an rx7. Blisteringly quick then nothing.
Its easy to take the limiter's off though.

pretty sure that 80's 3 series bmw's had the same wheel stud pattern and they ran 13" wheels :( :cry: :) :)

thats actually incorrect. the rule is that any car built in germany has to be limited to 155mph. where the company is from has nothing to do with it. if the factory is in germany, all the cars built in it have to be limited to 155mph.

cars built in japan are limited to 120mph.

MR2 in french sounds allot like the french word for *melon*...

basic rule of speed limits in germany are

if you are doing more than 155 on the autobarn (dont know how to spell lol) you will be pulled over

as it is ilegale to modifiy you car from its makers standerd spec in germany

german made sports cars will do well over 155 mph but saloons are resticted

you can not put a sports air filter on with out having a german sva so to speak

very strick rules on performance mod's

german designed cars....some...have a negative scrub radius designed into the suspesion geometry twinned with menufacturers wheel and tyre combo, its the line from the McPhearson through the centre line of the wheel, with the nagative ones the line doesnt meet the line from the tyre at the centre it goes past, closer to the outside of the wheel...this was brought about so when you burst a tyre on the autoban the suspension geometry wouldnt be a million miles out which would usualy mess up handling allowing driver to control alot better than in a convensional car where geometry is to the centre line of the tyre, it enables driver to stop a vehicle in a safer way due to the higher speeds they drive
