I don't really want to jump in a cause more harm than good, as the carb itself has no real issues in it's present state.
thanks in advance...

Get yourself the Haynes manual for the SU carbs as well, I did mine and it was really easy.
Oops yeah - good point! Excellent advice too

how can you tell if it needs doing? The question occurs, if it's not broken why are you doing it?

I was told to not use the fibreglas washer for the float's shaft suplied in some kits.
Seemingly they have the nasty habit of leaking after a while (fuel on hot exhaust)

As said I was only told - but it sounded credible.
The rebuild is easy. But take care with the choke's o rings (by the way; some HIFs have two o-seals, some have one and a paper gasket).
Don't damage them.

Started by checking each of the connecting hoses and found that when i block the overflow the revs drop right off and after a few seconds it stalls.
So have had the carb off to adjust the float, figured not enough fuel in the body so air can be drawn through. The float is in spec as per the Haynes manual...... any ideas?
