Hi,
After completing a complete restoration of my car the doors dont shut propoerly.
All of the lines line up etc, but you just have ot slam them door so hard to get it to close. I have moved the locating loop out but any more and the door would just stick out too much at the back.
Is this because of the rubbers, should i be looking at buying softer ones maybe??
Thanks
Jon

Take the seals off to find out, it could be you've twisted the hinge panel so the hinges bottom out before the door shuts. I've done worse before I learned to always do a test build up before welding things up solidly.

That panel is the original, plus if you take the seals off the door fits perfect.
Its just when they are on its like they are too thick and you have to slam it to squash them.

I have had to move it out so that i can actually shut the door.
Its its in then i can shut it, and it all lines up but its so hard to push it closed. Almost like the seals is stopping it shutting, could it be that it is too hard?

Hi,
I'm not sure if i need to go that far.
The doors shut fine when the rubbers are not in, line up perfectly all the way round.
When the rubbers are in they are just hard to shut. I just wanted to know if this could be that the rubbers are too hard meaning they dont squash as easy as new ones making the door harder to shut.
Cheers

Are you sure they are the right rubbers for the doors?
The only other thing I can think of is that the locking plate is too far back, if you bring it further foward then have a look how much the door sticks out by you can bend the door into shape, if its only a bit out on the bottom corner then it will bend to shape if its out all the way up the door then theres something not right with the locking system.
Also have you made sure the door is unlocked? could be slightly locked and making the latch stiff.
Paul.

Firstly, grease the catch.
Are they the original door seals? They do harden up but old seals should have taken the shape of the closed door over time and allow it to shut properly. If they aren't in exactly the same place as they were, or are on the other sides of the car than they won't let it shut properly. Try new ones.

I had allsorts of problems with the doors on the project Mayfair, partly because of the mk1 hinge conversion, but the doors would shut fine with the door seals off, but wouldn’t shut or had to be forced with them on. So I found the only way round this was to bend the lip the door seal pushes on to slightly away from the door were the seal was being compressed before the door was shut.

Well the door seals will definately not be in the right place, could be opposites etc or slightly off as i just took them off and stuck them back on again.
You think some new rubbers would be an idea then?
