cheers, so do i! lol only problem with not being able to weld is waiting on others. was hoping to get it on the road by august for santa pod but dont think its going to happen at this rate :dontgetit: although if i can get it running, i could just laquer the paint work and filler as it is ;D

how do i remove the steering column bracket from the lower dash rail? i want to replace the dash rail with some box section as it will stronger. had a go at undoing the nuts earlier but they seem rather tight/rusted. the 'bolt' has tapered type of head.

considering chopping out the rust and centre of the roof and replacing with a fg skin. are these ok for everyday road use or are there problems with them?

hasn't really been any progress with the lesbian, been fixing the daily drive clubby, but mainly as i have to wait for a someone to do the welding as i cant do it myself.

the more i look at it the more i see needs doing but cant be done until after the welding, all the work is building up and having to do it by myself is starting to drag me down a bit, sometimes to the point where i am considering giving up and selling off the parts ;)

also borrowed a welder from a mini club friend and spent a few hours trying to teach myself. got a few pics so feel free to give advice and tips lol.
forgot to get pics before i tidied it up

works been rather crap lately, but the week was brightened up today when i arrived home to these...

Posted Image
:D

worth the 2 week wait. so now i can get the project back onto at least 2 wheels, then get a tdk beam axle on pay day.
just sorting out someone to build the engine mounting brackets, then after someoneto tub and turret the rear arches.

need this together for IMM (hopefully) if not beginning of september at teh latest to go off to uni. going to be a tough challenge

so been out today and fitted the allspeed bottom arms and tie rods today, so now the lesbian is back down on 2 wheels (ish). have no cones so she rests on the top arm bump stops without axle stands. sits rather low, wish i could keep her this low :(

all fitted, allspeed bottom arms and tie rods

back on 2 wheels, heldup axle stands until i get some blocks of wood or coilovers

shouldbe getting it upto my house tomorrow or next weekend to do a bit of welding on it. want to replace the bottom dash rail with box section as its a bit bent and flimsy. will also brace the bulkhead whilst i'm at it.

im having trouble removing this though...
Posted Image

could i just cut it off the weld it to the box section or has anyone fabricated their own steering column bracket?

well had my first go at welding on the project today...and i dont think it went too badly. it stood up to the hammer test so should last.

dash rail chopped out
Posted Image

found this stuck in the back of the rail, wonder how long its been there? lol
Posted Image

still need to put another bulkhead 'brace bar' in on the n/s.
Posted Image

hopefully will get the other bar in tomorrow and welds tidied up, but theres a rover 216 sli down the road being scrapped on tuesday, and i've been told if i want anything for my k series i can take it so will be stripping parts off tomorrow aswell :(

looking spot on! those bottom arms look lush!

a FG roof skin should be fine on a road car, people have webastos dont they! if its bonded on right sould be stronger than the steel one...

still need to come have a looksie!

thinking of bonding and rivetingthe skin on, but counter sinking the rivets and skimming with filler so they are invisible. the allspeed arms are awesome, well worth the money and wait.

still need to come see the bean, but i always seem to end up fixing the clubby or getting carried away with the project :P lol

spent my day stripping down a rover 216 sli thats being scrapped. got a cylinder head, inlet, throttle body, rad, fan, pipes, cat, spare manifold, alternator, bottom bracket and probably something i've forgotten lol

finished off the dash rail now. the steering column brackets was now too small/short so built one onto the bottom dash rail

Posted Image

Posted Image

i know its not the best looking thing but my first piece of fabricating/welding on the car i'm quite proud of it :D

steering column back on. will make it a bit easier too move thew car up and down the road lol
Posted Image

Posted Image

A friend gave me a back box as a possiblity for the rose, will be rather loud, but thought i might look rather good like this...

looks great! might do this dash rail thing myself actually. Does the steering wheel sit considerably lower and will it be safe?

Great project

the steering wheel sits at roughly the same height as it was before, and with the adjustable height bracket it can be raised if needed. i beat the box section with a hammer to check the strength of the welds and it didnt fall apart so should be strong enough :D also rounded of any edges with a flap disc
