Let Mr Noisey (the fifth) meet the mini yesterday.

The ARB drop links were hitting the body and couldn't get anywhere near the radius arms. So a little adjustment was made

DSC_0675_zpskaga5zlf.jpg

Mounted the oil cooler as well but not entirely sure about position

Mounted it under the subframe front crossmember

DSC_0674_zpsybperme2.jpg

DSC_0671_zpsshavhedx.jpg

To get the front to fit though I'll need to cut out the red section

DSC_0670_zpspuubkmkj.jpg

Not sure whether to keep it there, move it back and up a bit or up next to the engine block? If I keep it down the front I'll make an air scoop, maybe with a mesh grill for a bit of protection.

Also ground out the offending sections of the rocker cover(leaving the gasket positioning pieces) that the roller rockers were catching.

Need to check but hopefully that sorts the problem. Just need to smooth it out now as couldn't get access to a mill so had use the grinder....

Once again not much has happened. Just fitting a few bearings and torquing a few nuts on the gearbox/transfer gears, some lapping in of valves and talking with my mate about the production of some composite parts for the projects.

Other than that I took the cover off of my clubman as I've bought a new all weather fitted cover for it. Whist it was off I thought it was a good idea to poke at the rust bubbles...I regretted this decision pretty quickly.

Done a couple of little bits on the mini.

exhaust backboxes positioned and mounts tacked on to the subframe. Will fully weld them on when I next drop the subframe, easier than welding upside down.

DSC_0744_zpsb60d1588.jpg

Think I may need to extend the outlet pipes though, they're a little shy...

IMG_20141027_110323_zpsefc08e1c.jpg

Took a trip to mini spares the other day, intending to only buy a few little bits... ended up spending £225....

Fitted the new diff bearings earlier but no photos, Wanted to fit and shim the diff but remembered that I still need to clean/media blast the diff covers.

Also bought a 5" maniflow inlet, got a little worried whether my bulkhead box was deep enough when I bolted the weber on

IMG_20141031_190559_zps926a40bd.jpg

So spent some time today fitting the main engine components togeher to check

DSC_0749_zps030ca8b7.jpg

DSC_0747_zpsa99a022f.jpg

It clears with plenty of room to fit in an air box/ram air system! so now to start sorting out for making a mould and see my mate about laying it up in either carbon or fg.

A few more small bits done thanks to a few ebay bargains.

Won some goodridge oil hoses with an -8 fittings for £5.50, saving me about £80+ on fittings :D . Bought some new hose, which i'll change when the engine and oil cooler are fully mounted, and a few adaptor fittings from Torques.

DSC_0764_zps93c7c0d3.jpg

Also had a new steering column mount made up.

DSC_0759_zpsfc88113f.jpg

The current steering column was damaged before and had to have almost 10 thou skimmed off of the bearing surface which meant turning custom sized nylon 66 bearings, so decided to go back to standard sized needle roller bearings and replace the steering column with a new item.

That's currently being machined to used a u.j and be fitted with the slug for the racetech quick release boss, in exchange for cake.

Once that's done I can position and weld the cage part of the column mount.

Gearbox is done. Diff and crown wheel are in and 1st motion shaft nut is all torqued up. Used a ratchet to hold the gearbox down whilst I torqued up the nut.

DSC_0763_zps55125358.jpg

Won a weber linkage on ebay the other day, got a lever arm on its way so I can mount the rod.

IMG-20141129-WA0000_zps76859861.jpg

I think that's all. Well that's all I can remember for now...

Picked up the rear subframe billet trunnions and steering column from being machined today. Cost me a victoria sponge for the work. the plan was to get the rear subframe an suspension mounted to get the car back down on 4 wheels then make the last bits needed for the steering column mount.

However as usual things never go to plan, had multiple problems so fitting the subframe and suspension took about three times as long as it should have.

DSC_0861_zpsf2d71b17.jpg

DSC_0863_zpse7d5f1cc.jpg

Had to take about 5mm off of the inside face of the rear trunnions, now there's 5mm of mounting pin shank on show before the thread so will need some spacers making up.

Once it was back on the floor I wanted to see how low it was with the hi-los on their lowest setting.

DSC_0873_zps1b9a2385.jpg

I think the trumpets may need some machining to get it low enough for what I want, especially once the new cones are fitted.

Didn't get a pic of the column so will grab one tomorrow when I head to the lair. The work is much neater than that of my old column

Haha you must have some crusty underwear then coopdog! Go for it! I only stole it from the miglias anyway haha

Couple of pics of the column

DSC_0878_zpsyegu5pbj.jpg

DSC_0876_zpsgiwqdpjk.jpg

I'll probably paint it black at some point, at my current rate that will be in a year or 2....

Luckily I got the car back on 4 wheels last night as my mate wanted to borrow the engine crane today. Whilst the car was out decided to try and have a tidy up in the garage to make some space to work in.

my last cable tie came in useful to hold this up out of harms way

DSC_0890_zpsbalbn13p.jpg

decided to add the finishing touch to the rose which I found in a box

DSC_0879_zpsn6pbkg6j.jpg

Found these in a box, didn't even know I had them! So they'll make a nice addition to the clubman when I eventually start work on it.

DSC_0875_zpsjoaymgjx.jpg

After several hours of emptying the garage, black sacks and re-arranging things are looking a little tidier.

DSC_0893_zps13uk1f2e.jpg

now have about 3ft or so in front of the car to use the bench

DSC_0884_zps7yxnhy9k.jpg

and a large space behind

DSC_0885_zpsz13iv8ov.jpg

tried to get all the project engine parts I could fit onto one shelving rack

DSC_0894_zpsjvzrc16n.jpg

probably the only clean parts in the garage

now just a small pile of bits from previous project ideas to sell/get rid of

Well not much progress but got a few more parts.

After 2 weeks at the new job I came home with some free parts. As the cars are running in FIA championships the seat and harnesses all have to be in date, these were out so thought they'd do for the passenger.

IMG_20150220_182314_zpsrdaq5tpg.jpg

The harness looks like its hardly had any use. The seat is too wide for the space so unfortunately the vx220 seat will have to suffice.

Fitted the harness to check how it would fit as the seat doesn't have holes for the shoulder straps, hopefully will work ok. If not passengers have spare hands to hold on haha

DSC_0903_zpsexsgb9fh.jpg

DSC_0901_zpsrd4htu7j.jpg

Also fitted the steering column u.j I got from work, still need to get a groove turned into the column splines for the locking screw though.

Bought some ARP head studs off of ebay

DSC_0899_zpsfr54ljli.jpg

Had a couple of trips to minispares as well.

First trip I returned with a high torque starter motor

DSC_0897_zpsyvou84zn.jpg

and a high flow oil pump

Second trip the oher day I bought:

Maniflow large bore LCB manifold

DSC_0923_zpsyqoufje8.jpg

Adjustable camber and toe rear subframe brackets

DSC_0918_zps0dnvm9j2.jpg

Also bought a K&N for the weber but I think i'm going to return it. Its only about 10-15mm deeper than the trumpets so I think its going to disrupt air flow too much for best performance.

DSC_0949_zps2uszwpws.jpg

DSC_0953_zps6vpwnewa.jpg

Fitted a mock up engine to start sorting hoses, water pump postion etc

IMG_20150322_123602_zpszdble9p3.jpg

It's staying without the rear valance mate, based on the miglias and let's the exhausts sit higher for ground clearance
