Wow! This is like 5 projects in one lol.
So is this the final design this time?
Cracking work though mate.

didn't realise it had been so long since my last post!
Not a massive amount has happened to be honest, it's just sat in the garage as in my final year of uni so dissertation and assignments have ruined my life.
Ben_O hopefully this will be the last design although no doubt a few bits may be improved/changed along the way haha
I'll try and get together a post later of the few jobs that have been done or parts purchased

well this is only going to be short as I can't really remember what I've done/bought since the last post...
Got this oil catch tank a while a go from Endaf Owens
started building up the cross pin diff, until I realised I forgot to take output shafts back to uni with me.....
Couldn't find a pinion gear to go with my bargain Jack Knight semi-s/c crownwheel so picked up this CWP fairly cheap
Looks like I'll be having a passenger seat after all! Was given a set of Vauxhall VX220 seats
and it fits in next to my Revolution
Been making a list today to work out what engine parts I currently have/need. Whilst looking through boxes found my Kent cams STR 930 I bought a while ago.
Never realised it was x-drilled so that's a bonus.
Starting to get a few nice parts for the Rose's engine. Here's everything I've gathered so far (exciting and boring):
- Modified alloy rocker cover for roller rocker clearance and outlets for oil catch tank
- 1.5:1 roller rockers
- Miglia spec cylinder head
- self-made dry deck kit
- Weber DCOE 45 (almost new) with ram pipes
- 1275 block with blocked water ways, water pump hole opened up for flow, 'box mount holes re-tapped 5/16", drilled/tapped for 11 stud
- Kent STR 930 cam, X-drilled
- Swiftune lightened alloy/steel duplex vernier timing gear set
- Minispares Isky type drilled cam followers
- Machined centre main cap and steel centre main strap
- SH engineering ultra light flywheel and steel backplate
- Pre verto conversion kit (with orange diaphragm I think)
- Modified clutch housing
- Omega OP 120 forged pistons
- Lightened + balanced con rods
- S/C gearbox with central oil pick up
- Minispares S/C drop gears 1:1 ratio
- Minispares x-pin diff
- 3.76 CWP
- Self-made water pump outlet plate for electric water pump
- Davies Craig electric water pump
- metro front mount rad (changing to a golf rad soon)
- Omex ECU and crank position sensor
- Coil pack
- 13 row oil cooler and braided hoses
- Kabuto mini excavator alternator and regulator
- DSN classsics fuel pump and dizzy blanking plates
- Force racing rose jointed engine stabilisers

Should also be getting a few more bits for the car from Endaf this week

not much of an update but I've got the X-pin diff built up with output shafts and the CW or the 3.76 final drive
Haven't had time to get collect the bits from Owens Fabrications yet but shall be heading down Friday. Also waiting for a new liner for my welder to try and sort that out and with uni finished I should get some time to try and make some progress on the build finally!
May even get it finished this decade....

You thread title always makes me giggle whenever it pops up. (love being childish)
That's one hell of an engine spec!

I finally made it down to Owens Fabrications yesterday with a small detour on the way home from Huddersfield....
Picked up my fuel tank, lower ball joint extensions and alloy solid mounts for the rear subframe.
The rear subframe mounts will need some machining to make them fit as the holes in the floor seem closer together than usual and I can't even fit rubber bushes on the subframe side of the original trunnion.
Had a bit of time today so started mounting the fuel tank in the boot.
Cut a hole in the floor for the fuel pot to poke through (hole still needs tidying up)
Had to remove the exhaust mount brackets, luckily they were only tacked on.
Removed the ARB and with a bit of a wiggle and a jiggle got the tank in.
Was a little worried if the ARB would fit back in
Luckily it does....
...just
Think I'l have to shift the exhaust over to the O/S a little it to give some clearance between the heat and fuel pot.

Apart from a few little bits like mounting the oil catch tank, brake reservoirs and trying to fit in the new Seat Ibiza rad there's not been any real progress on the car since I saw this link posted in the minis in motorsport section other week:
https://mattersoftes...le-a-rally-car/
Starting to wonder now if it's worth continuing if it won't be able to go on the road.
Also spent some time building this for a mate

Not a lot of progress as usual due to lack of funds.
Just been degreasing and cleaning engine and gearbox parts. Started to fit s/c drop gears and diff then realised I needed new bearings to do any of it which threw a rather large spanner in the works.
However the other day I found a pot of rose pink engine paint I bought a few years ago and this happened...
Lapped in the valves and built up the head.
Painted a few parts matt black as had a couple of cans of it laying around. Rather happy with how they look. Quite like how the green nuts look against the pink as well.
Next I rebuilt the 1.5 roller rockers, replacing the broken rocker and fitting the solid spacer kit at the same time, (need a couple more 20 thou shims to finish completely),fitted them to the cylinder head then the head onto the block to see how it looked.
Oh yeah, also fitted the block with new core plugs.
Found a rather large problem when the alloy rocker cover is fitted. The cover obstructs the movement of certain rockers, where the rocker covers 'ribs' are.
Where there are no 'ribs' and I've milled out the back wall, the rockers seem to have full movement so looks like I need to try and get access to a mill again.
Also had a bit of a tidy up trying to make room for the A series parts on the shelves and room to assemble. Boxing up the parts I'd gathered for the K series engine, I think I have most parts for a fairly decent turbo setup on something in the future...

Pulled the drive shafts off of the clubman for the project today (have a cooper s gearbox with hardy spicers for the clubmans rebuild so need different shafts anyway).
After cleaning off the masses of grease I noticed this....
not sure whether to use them or buy replacements. Unless I get them welded then turn down the excess weld?

Had a little time on the mini yesterday.
Made a temporary steering column mount as haven't managed to get access to a lathe to bore out the 1 1/4" cds tube for the column bearings. The cage mount part is pretty much how the final part will be but made a column section out of some 1 1/2" cds, the bearings and some duct tape....
Also moved the handbrake lever forward by about an inch and a half as had too much cable slack and not enough adjustment.
Now have a fully working handbrake! Just need to make a small adjustment to the exhaust tunnel swage near the heel board as the cable is rubbing on it.
