cheers mate, the welding still needs a lot of work. i only show the good bits  ;D haha

not made much progress this week, just been playing around with bits whilst still waiting for my cds tube.

playing around with the oil cooler position, do you think this would be a little risky with stones etc?

20130515_192903_zps5634605b.jpg

got the light holes all cut out and lights fitted. slowly starting to look like a mini again

20130516_195733_zps7f975d89.jpg

couple of bits turned up this week (other than boring things like bolts and rivets to fit parts)

wilwood brake proportioning valve

20130517_193637_zps139e54dc.jpg

should be making a bracket for it tomorrow

warning lights for my switch pod that i'm currently drawing up.

20130517_193728_zpsd5440321.jpg

hopefully will be making hte switch pod out of something a bit more special than just steel or ali  :D

couple of biits done today

subframe tower mounts/extra mounts points welded in.

20130518_125339_zps9dab7869.jpg

welded spreader plates to the body work and made the nuts captive to save hassle when bolting up.

done what is probably one of my neatest weld beads when fitting the gussets (minus the large tacks at the ends)

20130518_124833_zpsb669cf24.jpg

never really been happy with the seat mounts so decided to redo them in cds tube

20130518_201930_zps0c88598d.jpg

still need a little fettling though

Mate, did you buy a new welder or something? Your welding is suddenly perfect!

I bought a new, more powerful welder back in november-ish. Recently I've started using 1mm wire for material over about 2-2.5mm thick and reduced the wire feed speed. I find it easier to get a neater weld on vertical ones

My welding is far from perfect (especially when going around tube joints etc), I just have my good moments haha

20130519_161902_zps099b3f4e.jpg

made a little mounting plate for my brake proportioning valve on the pedal box mount

20130520_174248_zpsafb48575.jpg

Id close the rollcage triangulation holes going through the bulkhead cross member otherwise you will have water/condensation in there sharpish.

Other wise, its coming on well! keep it up

well i took a small step back today. after fitting the oil cooler yesterday i went to fit the rad today and the oil cooler was in the way so had to cut the mounts off and start again...

so this is the new mount.brace bar design

20130527_163123_zpsb72a5f4e.jpg

20130527_185258_zpsed765a32.jpg

20130527_173447_zps8ea3180a.jpg

made up a quick adjustable acc. pedal stop

20130527_173506_zpse66aa2e6.jpg

only tacked at the minute incase it needs moving when i make some shape adjustments to the pedal

gusseted the subframe lower mounts and finally drilled the floor for the other mount bolts

20130527_185201_zpsdc98087d.jpg

made up a mount for the fire extinguisher pull cable

20130527_194503_zps540d261b.jpg

may of found a passenger seat. had my mates go kart seat which is going on a drift trike so thought i'd give it a try for size

20130527_082714_zpsb80ef4e1.jpg

haven't really done much on the car for a few weeks now. done a few off jobs but made much progress.

started putting some of the original colour back on the car

20130601_151053_zpscaf026ff.jpg

20130607_204042_zpsdea532f8.jpg

fg front bumper is on

20130603_195528_zps6f8ba238.jpg

need to finish one of the brackets

started making my switch pod at work

20130611_133659_zps6c465ed0.jpg

making it out of titanium. waiting for the sides to be cut then they can be rolled to shape and all welded together

needed a water outlet for the block to dry deck the engine. the head already had one at 38mm O.D but would have trouble trying to fit 38mm on the block so decided to remake them for 35mm hose. Couldn't find and ali tube or round stock at work, only 1.5" x 6" x 4' (ish) bar so cut a piece off around 1.5" square, fitted the 4 jaw to the lathe and started making the outlet.

20130618_103719_zps0f8426c4.jpg

20130618_120825_zpsdf72a84f.jpg

made up the mount plates. Also made a 32mm O.D outlet and plate to replace the water pump as going electric

20130619_120718_zpsd7b6f75a.jpg

with the position of the handbrake now the handle was awkward to get a hand on so decided to extend it.

20130621_123921_zps29ea6ad2.jpg

the extension sleeve has cut outs on the ends to increase the welded area and improve strength. the push rod for the pawl was cut, threaded M5, then a bit of rod drilled and tapped to extend it.

sandblasted the timing cover and rocker cover at work

20130622_135516_zps33b29ccb.jpg

20130622_135536_zpsd3e89895.jpg

today i took my crank centre main cap in to work and we milled it  for the steel centre main strap and used the surface grinder to ensure flatness. skimmed the steel main strap on the surface grinder as well just to make sure the fit together well.

had a great day at brands hatch mini festival watching the racing and having a nosey around the migs. bought a lexan rear window. also ordered some lexan door windows with air holes in.

only problem is after looking round all the miglias i've realised i really want some different wheels so strongly considering selling the ultra deep dish 6x10" wellers to raise funds.....

not been up to much on the mini lately (again) apart for a little bit of machinig on the engine at work  and buying a few odd bits

so heres the lexan windows i ordered/bought before

20130703_172707_zps0f6e4b2c.jpg

20130703_183317_zpsb25cc17a.jpg

turned a couple of outlets for my alloy rocker cover and drilled the holes to fit them. just need to get them TIG'd at work

20130703_163800_zps58335fcc.jpg

drilled and taped the block for the extra 2 head studs

20130706_114804_zps40c89a20.jpg

ground out around the back of the water pump hole to allow for better flow around the back of the engine

20130706_114711_zps46bd5be2.jpg

20130706_114706_zpsc85cbe98.jpg

also found a bit of ******* from casting blocking part of the water way so knocked that out and opened up the holes a bit to allow for even more flow.

won bit of a bargain off ebay the other week.

20130705_155255_zpscab1b71e.jpg

Jack Knight 3.9 semi straight cut crown wheel. cost me a whole......... £3.70!

20130705_155407_zps8b16dbfa.jpg

just need to get a pinion for it now

Also bought a set of new mini spares straight cut drop gears off of a TMF member

20130708_184228_zps530bd2c3.jpg

After work today i drilled and taped the block for the dry deck outlet

20130712_141514_zpsfff68531.jpg

20130712_142059_zps39ea8eb5.jpg

needs some shorter bolts but that's the only length M5s they had in at work

When i had the car at the house last weekend the exhaust grounded out on the drop kerb of the driveway...

20130707_135752_zps6c5453c6.jpg

think i may need to lift the rear suspension a little. also going to make a strap to mount it at work.

over and out.
