just another small update.

cut the 45 deg hoses to fit
Posted Image

they came with 6" 'legs' each side of the bend and i had to cut about 4" of it off haha

now have plenty of clearance between the ITBs and the crossmember
Posted Image

cut a chunk out of the bonnet so it closed properly as i have the engine sitting higher for ground clearance
Posted Image

just bit of the cambelt cover sticking out
Posted Image

as much as i dislike the look of the +90 now, i did find out the mg zt manifold and t25 will fit underneath it
Posted Image

still want to try and get it all under a standard front though whilst n/a, maybe when eventually turbo'd as well if i go custom manifold...

wasn't happy with cage, just adding bits on to link into the rear turrets. looked like a dodgy cut and shut so this happened the other day....

Posted Image

so over the last couple of days, in between rainy showers/monsoons, i've been cutting and notching

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

got the first piece of the rear X brace taped in as i currently have no gas so can't do any welding
Posted Image

i also cut out the 1 1/2" strengthening/triangulation tubes at the top of the doors and replaced it with 1 1/4" as my chair was hitting them. also made up one of the windscreen gusset tubes. both are also taped in

Posted Image
moving the the rear legs to the suspension turrets also gives me clearance between my seat and the rear X brace so i can move my seat back another 1.5" or so

and this has been the most useful tool i have over the last few days
Posted Image
the cheapest as well as i stole the wood from my dads shed. made working out angles for notching so much easier!

i start my placement job in august so hopefully by end of aug i'll have money to buy parts and a new, more powerful welder (with a larger duty cycle) to weld the cage up with. i'll just tack it for now when i get gas.

cheers

I just read the whole of this thread and i literally can't wait for more progress! its sick man, keep going!! :D

few questions though...
1- i'm a student too, so how can you afford to just buy stuff then just not use it! O_O and all the stuff is expense aswell like the dash!
2- are you making a racecar or a road legal one?
3- how many cars do you have? thats a random one but it mindf**ked me haha

great stuff though, i'll be following this ;D

cheers mate! progress may be slowing down at the minute as i need parts but don't have the funds at the minute

i worked full time for 3 years before uni so some of the bits i bought whilst i had an income and other bits i bought whilst at uni from savings. also sold some stuff to make funds for parts. i did get some bargains from for sale sections or off of ebay, the dash being one of them.

i'm aiming for it to be back on the road hopefully, but by the time its finished the earth would have probably run out of oil and there will be no more petrol haha if it needs an iva when i change the v5 then i may end up reverting it back to A series just so i can keep it for the road as i can't afford £500 for the test plus all hte changes that would be needed for it to pass.

i currently have 3 cars. a '72 clubman, this rose and pug 106 diesel for my daily. may be getting my hands on '70 hillman imp hopefully, should be able to sort it now i'm back home for a year on placement.

cheers

looks like the decision is to call it a day and sell the conversion parts. i'll be keeping the rest of the car though and finishing it at some point with an A series

yeah, it just been getting on top of me and become bit of a bane of my life haha

wish i could afford a 1380! probably 1275 to start with, or 1293 if i can afford the rebore and pistons. got some parts in the garage from previous project plans; stage 3 12G940 (with swiftune double valve springs and single groove valves (which are race ones from what i've read?)), swiftune sw5 cam (may change to sw10 though), central oil pick up, centre main strap, Dellorto DHLA 40 (needs a rebuild) and maybe something i've forgotten. also want some roller rockers, lightened flywheel, lightened/balanced/nitrided/wedged crank, straight cut drop gears, vernier duplex timing gear. i'll add to that list over time once its on the road no doubt

yeah hopefully it will be fast-ish. should accelerate well and handle on 10's. my brothers old mini was good fun and that was about 87bhp so if i can get a 100 or so i'll be happy....to start with haha only problem is push it to much and it gets expensive to keep it from going bang.

just bought a 1293 block, pistons, crank and rods for it. should probably sell the old setup for funds before buying a new one...

been looking around and if i can afford it i might look into a mappable ignition ECU like canems setup. It was on coilovers but the rear end is back on cones/dampers. putting the front back to cones/dampers as well. will buy some red or yellow dots as well when i have the money

Go for red dot unless you are only using the car on track. Yoda has yellow dots and is a bit harsh on our roads. Mind you he runs on rails through the bends :shifty:
