I bought the car with the conversion already done without knowing what i've let myself in for. As far as I know, the engine is the original 93 spi. Oh well, thats another shed load of cash gone.

Well it has been done in the past. You can get the car through emissions without putting the ECU back in but you'll have to make some choices. I believe that you are effectively limited to having either power and performance or clean emissions. You will have to get the fuelling setup very, very precisely. If it were mine I would give the SU a very thorough overhaul, including the throttle bushes. Then take it to a very good rolling road and get a custom needle turned for it and get the dizzy curve looked at. It's going to need to be tuned regularly to keep it in order.

Just phoned the garage that did the previous MOT to see how they got it through last year with the carb, and as its works out the guy I spoke to instantly new the car as he rebuilt it. He then went on to say the car didn't have any problems with emissions as its pre-cat, 'just'. Aparently when they changed the regulations they had to put it back for mini's by a couple of months while they sorted the testing equipment or something. So early 90's spi are covered under the older testing, including mine :P He then went on to say thats why the previous owner had bought my particular car, so he could convert it to carb. The mechanic also mentioned that he's got a file of photo's of my car been rebuilt and that I can have it when I take it to be MOT'd-which i'll have no problems with. He also discussed the problems I was having with the carb and echoed what a few of you have been saying, that it'll be the jet and needle. He went into huge detail on this, most of which went over my head. But the main thing is he said I will have no problems with emissions once he's sorted the carb and tuned it. ;D

Sorry if I was a bit hazy as I have the memory of a gold fish and i'm extremely giddy. Hope this post will help anyone else in my shoes.
