please lets not get into this argument again! neither me or taffy would even dream of damaging another persons pride and joy, and as you know taffy isnt the biggest fan of BINIs, and neither am i! it is the individual who damaged the cars not BINI haters! so please do not group us with those individuals! otherwise this is going to end up in one big slanging match and get closed by the mods!

I had an 89 mayfair in damask red, Loved it but it had to go 2k in a month on repairs not good, so as i needed a more practical car i went for a MINI cooper, now on to second one. I did this so i could attend shows and stay in the club with my mates.
The thing is many people who *woman of ill repute* off the MINI and put in the same class as the sad morons who damage them for the simple fact that they shout out comments insted of keeping there comments to thereselfs. New Mini owners do wave to classic owners but now are stopping this as all they get back is the finger, Nice from some one you dont know, bet classic owners would moan abouts this to.
i am now looking at a cooper s clubman the new Mayfair or the new coupe which i have put a deposit on, still cant make my mind up. I am also looking at a classic but i need to look at the costs again of owning and keeping it running before i buy.

My Mini experience started 20 odd years ago, my first car was a 1977 Leyland Mini 1000. I added Cooper S brakes, lowered the car, widened steel wheels, a 970 Cooper S Motor with Straight Cut Close Ratio box, weber race cam etc. This was my first race car, and I had a lot of fun with it. It got rustier, bent front courtesy of a Mini Clubman, and generally... the body was had it, motor needed a full rebuild. So sadly I pulled the car to bits, kept the best bits and took the rest to the tip.

2 Years ago my wife came home with a 2002 MINI Cooper S on a test drive, and it was fantastic to drive - so we bought it.

I have been wanting an old Mini for years, and this just got me keen again. So.. I started looking for one with a rust free body for a reasonable cost. Looked for ages, either scruffy or too expensive. I finally found one, nice little white and black Mk3 made to look like a Mk1 (had not seen that done before). I offered the guy some money - he accepted but asked if we could do the deal in a months time, I agreed. 1 month later - rang the guy, and he told me that he sold it later that day to someone else.... I was really *drunk* off.

Kept looking, and finally got a 1990 Cooper that used to be a Japanese circuit car. This is my current project, and has inherited lots of bits and pieces from my old car, and will eventually get the 970S motor.

So.. the MINI is the wifes car, used on local trips, and some longer journeys. The Mini I take to work most days. We have a bigger car for the longer trips, or where we need more luggage space. Both the Minis are great cars, they dont have to compete with each other, they are great in different ways.

and different width wheels by the looks of them

I kinda like the look of the new Mini, but not all of them. The newer ones look better than the originals, and JCW latest one is really nice. Fiat 500 and the new KA look good too.
