Hey all,

I will be fitting a 1330 into my mini soon and must say im not keen on the little amount of pedal travel i currently have.

Is the metro clutch cable an option to fit? did a search but pretty fruitless.......... or would i be the first to try it............. >_<

I remember buying a clutch cable for my brothers k series metro and was given a cable for an austim metro in error, and a quick googe search confirms that some mg metros had cables >_< - just thought it would be easier than a hydraulic one....

I know you are talking rubbish about the clutch cable snapping - Metros for a fact have a hydraulic clutch!!

EDIT: Ignore that i just read further down the link i posted and somone else said that guy was wrong, wonder why its never really been done to the mini.

I know at least some metros had cable clutches, i removed an MG lump which had it.

Sorry to rain on your parade >_< , but it has been done, i've seen it. But the conversion i saw was a bit of a hacked up bodge.

The problem with the pedal is that the action/movement is going the wrong way, with the hydraulic its pushing and a cable is pulling. The arm would need swapping from the front to the back of the pedal.

I don't know how much it would affect the pedal throw. Whats wrong with the hydraulic set up??

A series Metros got a cable operated verto clutch in 1985. The engine end would be easy, but the pedal would need converting from push to pull. In any case you'd still have a certain amount of clutch operating movement to produce with a certain amount of pedal travel.

Before you start trying to do such a complicated conversion, have you checked that the clutch is adjusted correctly and that the hydraulic system is bled properly and in good condition?

I have a Midas Mk3 which uses a Hydraulic Clutch Metro Pedal Box.

As Ethel says, all 1985 on (Mk2 Metros) had Cable actuated clutches.

Theres no way I want one of those in my car. Hydraulic for me everytime.

Just make sure you have your clutch set properly. Please dont set the plunger too far in though. Otherwise those
crank thrust washers will kill your entire engine.

Cheers,

David

do you have an uprated clutch, if you want more clutch bite point travel (the overall pedal travel will be the same) and a lighter clutch pedal it is posible to fit a hydrualic master cylinder from a mg metro they have a smaller bore, it works on my verto anyway.
