What if you were to re-do it with a center speedo and just bring that one speaker to ther other side of the gauges. Might balance out the overall look and help with the sound?

yes i know it looks a lot better now, not easy finding spaces to fit speakers without loosing your vents!!! and i dont want stupid speaker pods as il just bash my knees on it as will all my mates. however i did want the speaker pods fitted in the doors but how an earth are you ment to run the wire through the door and into the back of the dash without f***in the cable up?

Despite the fact that the speakers are placed next to each other, I'd like to thank Russell for going to all this trouble and producing a guide about making your own dashboard! It's a nice thing to do for the forum!

your supposed to run them through the door via a hole drilled in the door and the bit behinde the A-pannel, use grommets on the holes and your wires will be fine.

I like the iPod holder idea but I'm still not sure how you've done it. You drilled a hole in the bottom of the ashtray and screwed the iPod holder into it, but what did you do with the carpet? Is the ashtray put back in upside down?

Cheers,
Ben.

basically got a piece of wood and cut it to the size of the ashtray but an ickle bit smaller so that you can carpet this, that is represented via the diagram i drew, you then drill the hole in the middle of that piece of wood the same if not ickle bit smaller than the required size, then carpet the small bit of wood, use bit of glue or tiny screws to fix it down, then screw the ipod holder into the hole and tightly squeeze the piece of wood with the ipod holder in, into the ashtray.
Hope that makes sense.

Cheers mate, some1 actually being nice, i think everyone is delibratly picking the obvious, yes i knw the speakers are next to each ova, get over it and get a life, the world doesnt end because of it, this was a temp solution to use the speakers, i am in the process of redesign so for god sake leave the speakers out of the equation!!! hence why this was a guide to how to create your own dash, it wasnt copy my idea or *woman of ill repute* it of was it? no didnt think so, so leave the speakers out of it from now on and actually comment the other stuff as i know the speakers are next to each over, i am redesigning it as we speak and have been for a while. >_<

NICE MESSAGES FROM NOW ON!!!!!

Well said that man, just look at the work that’s gone into this post whether you like the set up of the dash or not it’s irrelevant. How many people will gain from the help given

Ah, I see. I think I may do it slightly differently so that I can revert the dashboard to looking standard, maybe by cutting a piece of wood to slot inside my ashtray with a hole in it for the iPod holder, then when parking up or whatever taking it out and closing the ashtray like normal... It's food for thought. I ought to plumb in a sound system first though... Thanks for the inspiration. :-

I know i'm not supposed to comment on the speakers but just thought it might be relevant to let people know that putting 2 identical speakers beside each other will actually make the sound spread more vertical, just like two speakers on top of each other will spread more horizontal. It's science you know :- Nice diagrams giving accurate sizes for anyone wishing to make a dashboard though.

Constructive and destructive interference ;D
