Or at least that was the plan...
Well I’ve had something happen recently which has meant I’ve now no longer got any funds (wasn’t much to start with) to throw at the Mayfair project or anything else for that matter.
With the Mayfair now out of the garage I’ve finally had a chance to do a proper long over due clearout. Most of the unwanted stuff will be going up for sale over the next few weeks, so hopefully I might have some funds to do something with.
So the engine build has now stalled, due to no funds for the last few parts needed along with the rest of the little bits to finish off the shell.
But to try and keep my sprits up and using whatever I’ve got stashed away in the garage, I’ve tried to make some progress (got nothing else to do)
The bulkhead has all been welded sealed and is in the stages of being painted.
Came up with a rather simples and effective bumpstop for the rear which I’ve tried and fitted to the drivers side, all will be revealed when (if) I do the passenger side at a later date.
Gave it a good wash and set about painting/rollering the roof, it’s had 3 coats and one clear so far.
I’ve also made a start of the first coat of the drivers side, still a few little marks I’m not happy with before I give it the same treatment as the roof.
Please ignore all the filler in the scuttle. I made a bit off a mess of the filling of some dints, just more work sanding thats all.
And using some leftovers that came with the mini and a roll of old carpet I bought at one of the shows years ago I've now re-trimmed the rear seat area.
And I’ve also lined the roof with some thin foam for when I get round to covering it with my chosen material.
So thats about it for now, anything that costs has been put on hold and any progress is a bonus.

Anyways, I though I might have a go at recovering and refitting the lower dash rail. Annoyingly the ex had the one I had recovered for hers when I did the wiring, painted up the dash and hand drew/painted some flowery design all over it. So I’ve been kind of left with her old dash rail left over.
But I just wasn’t happy with the way this one fitted and the covering wasn't as nice as I would like it to be.
I’m probably being harsh on myself, but I just can’t stand it when something isn’t as good as I could have made it to be, just bugs the hell out of me otherwise.
So I tried to figure out the mess that is the cars original wiring loom, which wouldn’t be too bad, but it’s been messed around a bit before. Plus I want all the bulkhead wiring and fuse box behind the dash, so it’s all hidden.
Which has thrown up problems with some wires now being far too long and some that are now far too short.
Although I’ve got a spare mini loom in which has been hacked about previously, so I can use that for any wires to repair and extend the Mayfair’s one.
It’s trying to work out all the extras on this one, as the loom is wired differently to the earlier one on the 25. Plus there’s also the question of I never knew which electrical stuff on this mini worked or not before it was pulled apart, but I’m sure I’ll work it all out.

Still trying to work out the loom, chopping out unwanted wired and extending others.
Also gave up on the lower dash rail, its now in the bin and I’m onto plan B. which is to just cover the metal dash rail instead.
I’ve got as far as welding a spare switch panel into the hole with plenty of little tacks, just a tiny bit of filler and i can start on covering it.

I’ve also made up some shelves from hard board for both sides of the dash. So I can cable tie all the wring to, as I’m trying to keep all the wiring behind the bulkhead inside the car for neatness. Plus is gives me something to screw the relocated fuse box and relays for the headlamps on the drivers side.
I’ll get some picks once I’m done and I can remember to take some before it gets too dark at the end of the day.

First up the rear bumps stops.
As I’ve cut off the brake pipe to flex bracket and drilled and taped it to accept a front bump stop. I’ve fitted full-length braided hoses to do away with the flexi and short section of pipe work.
While i was there, some of the underside of the rear.
The dash boards i'd made up, the top one (drivers side) shows the extra holes for the new location of the fuse box.
Next the switch panel I welded into the lower dash rail, not too sure if I should leave it painted or cover it now.
And lastly one of the borads and wiring properly fitted.

Proper ones of the dashboards fitted
And one of the neatly relocated fuse box, soon to add the headlamp relays under there as well.
And a coupe of the dash loosely fitted, as I need to make up a new centrepiece and come up with hidden fixings to hold it al in place.

Love the colour of the car mate, very John Deare next to the suspension

I can’t remember the traders name off the top of my head, but they are normally at the other big shows like Himley, Gaydon, mitp, Stanford hall and Malvern again.
