Ok I got a wiring kit today thats made by Fli (same as my amp), Ive wired it all in and WE HAVE SOUND!!! was soooo happy....

BUT

The speakers sound even worse than they did before....bass is crap and they distort really easily. Ive messed around with the settings on the amp but cant get it any better...is this just my amp and speaker combo or have I done something wrong...Ive read so many reviews about them being great, but only with an amp - well I think its quite the opposite to be honest!
Was really looking forward to hearing them with amp but now im a bit dissapointed...

Can anyone help?

Righto....sounds like you need to set the gain on the amp.
Turn the gain knob all the way to the minimum, turn off all equaliser settings on the HU and any bass boost settings on the amp.
Ramp up the HU volume until you begin to hear distortion from the speakers, then back it off a bit. This is your "safe" HU volume and you shouldn't really exceed this once the gain is set.
Keeping the HU volume the same, next turn the gain knob on the amp up until you can start to hear the speakers clip, or distort. Once they reach this level, back the gain off a bit. That's it roughly set, now you can mess around with equaliser settings.

Does the amp have high pass/low pass filters? I take it these are full range 6x9s so (I think) you'd want to turn the filter off.

cheers for that, theres a switch on it thats says HPF and LPH, which now I see means low and high pass filters with 'flat' in the middle - so I would want it on that yeh?

Will go and have a fiddle with gain then - 5 mins and I will report back!

Cheers ouster!

yeh the ones that came with the speakers. thats the only way to connect up the tweeter and woofer isnt it...

ive just taken it all out and back to the headunit - and it sounds crap, no bass compared to what it was before i started messin with the amp...why though because its just set up the same!! omg not happy!
should of just left it all as it was with the headunit only now ive gone and messed it all up and im so *drunk* off

im just going to have to pay someone to do it. but what happens if they still sound *pineapple* after ive paid someone £40 to wire it up?

Can you do a factory reset on the HU? Try playing with some settings on there. If not, the speakers may be ballsed up.

Ok I feel a bit of a melon but the neg and pos wire on one speaker were not the right way around! I didnt realize it could make such a big difference!
this makes me think that my amp was making the speakers perform so badly yesterday because I had the neg and pos wires mixed up in the speaker cable!!!

Im going to set up the amp again today or tomorrow but I just cant find anywhere to get the power cable through to the engine bay on my Punto!! Would be alot easier if I had a Mini!!!

Ive spoken to some people aswell, and we thought it could be possible that my amp isnt powerful enough for my speakers? (Vibe QB69 and Fli Loaded 400s amp)

Cheers
