I have bought a Janspeed back box, very nice it is too, to replace the horrible cherry bomb thing i have now. But the center pipe is narrower than the connecting end on the exhaust .

I wanted to know what the best plan is for this scenario is? as i can't really afford to by a new down pipe and centre pipe.

The cherry bomb that is currently fitted is also too big and one of the previous owners has used about three consecutively sized diameter pipes slid inside one another and welded together to artificially widen the pipe to allow connection to the exhaust. I just wanted to know is this a standard cheap-o mod or is it dangerous or not a good idea

thanks

Rob

can't see a problem with a welded up adaptor, may not be pretty but it will work (might not be good for flow), there are stepped adaptors on the market.

They are called reducers. I had to get one for mine. I think minisport do them, and P&L mini's- i can't remember where i got mine from one of them two.

There's a good chance your local motor factors will at least have a reducer listed,, but you may get a better price off Ebay or elsewhere online. The real cheap skate's option is to go rooting through Quickfit's scrap bin with a hacksaw

When I fitted a larger pipe to the stock pipe I had no welding gear so I made 4-5 cuts across the larger pipe about 3-4 inches deep. Then banged the 'flaps' inwards a bit until the stock pipe was a push on fit. Then I used the U-bolt clamp originally off the join and used that to clamp the flaps against the stock pipe. I then slackened the clamp, covered the stock pipe and inside of larger pipe with liquid exhaust sealer and clamped them both back together.

bit dodgy, but underneath the car... whos going to see it??
