Hi

I recently bought a set of twin SU carbs but am not sure from which car they originated.

They have the code AUG 8103 on the top of the damper pots and are 1 1/4" in diameter.

Can anyone help identify them?

Thanks

AUC 8103 is the damper's part number... >_<
AUC 8103 was fitted to many many SU carbs.

To be more precise:
- What's the number on the little alloy tags on top of the floatchambers?
- And whats the number cast into the intake manifold (there are some that fit a Mini and some that don't!)

Cheers,
Jan

PS: That manifold is upside down >_<

Going by the pictures, it appears you have quite a find there.

Those are HS2 carbs and that is a version of the Cooper air filter housing. The white paint would not be original. With a bit of cleaning and some satin black paint you'll have a very nice set of original looking carbs. The heat shields and tie bar between them is also present so everything looks very complete.

The HS2 pairs like that were also fitted to the Midget and AH Sprite but they used different manifolds, the float bowls were at different angles, and the air filter housing was different. The MG1100 also might have come fitted with a pair of HS2 carbs. The MG1100 manifold can be fitted to the Mini, but as with the Sprite/Midget parts there are some differences in the angles and the clearance of the components. However, I don't think the MG1100 used a Cooper air filter housing.

In summary, I suspect you've got a pair of HS2s off about a Mk3 Cooper or -S. The little squared off edge of the air filter housing says these are not off an earlier car.

Thank you both for your answers.

The reason I ask is to figure out whether they would allow sufficient breathing for a lightly ported MG Metro engine. When buying them, the seller did not know the size. I imagined 1.25" would be too small for a 1275 engine, seeing as my current 998 uses a 1.5", but they haven't they been used on some 1275 coopers?

On the float chamber tag it has the code: AUB344R (the B could be a D as it is a little faded)

The float chamber has the code: AUD 9203

The manifold has the code AEG 573

Do these numbers help?

You can look up the numbers on the Burlen website.

Twin 11/4's will be more than capable for a MG Metro Lump they only have half an engine each to fuel.

AUD344L/R means they'r of an 69/71 1300GT >_<
AEG 573 was fitted to early 1300GT as well as late Cooper S Mk2 and many others.

So it should fit a Mini >_<
(If not, you need 30°(?) fittings for the floatbowls and a Mini-type maifold.)

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks for all your help,

I'm glad I could find out more about these carbs, they should work well on my MG lump. I just thought that with the metro engine, the throat diameter might start to cause an airflow restriction, even for the two cylinders it's feeding, reducing the volumetric efficiency?

If they're good enough for the 1300GT, they're good enough for my metro.

They are a nice find, particularly being so complete. A matched pair WITH the air cleaner is worth quite a bit of money (at least over here). Congratulations!
