Who manufactured the ecu connectors for the Rover mems2j ecu? I want to get a pair of male and female connectors so that I can make a breakout harness that would let me test the sensors and such without having to backprobe through the ecu wiring rubber seals.

These people were able to get them. This is in a box somewhere, but I will take a look to see if there are any part numbers.

The connectors are called ECONOSEAL and are made by AMP. They are available in loads of sizes and can be bought from the likes of RS Components and Farnell

Hope this helps

Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou!!! I spent an entire day looking through the AMP collection of connectors and could not come across the exact ones. Not only are the Econoseal III 070 connectors the right ones but they also have the rest of the ones fitted to the wiring harness. I will deffinetly be purchasing some ECU plugs and other connectors so that I can make up some test leads and to replace a few of the broken fittings. :( Now to find a supplier...

by the way: what about the ones with the small metal clips like the coolant sensor, what are they called?

The sensors and injector connectors are called Junior Power Timer (JPT) or there is a simplified version called Junior Timer (JT) connectors.

The 36 way ECU Econoseal female connectors you can get from Polevolt along with all the other Econoseal connectors on the SPi/MPi looms, except for the large relaypack connector and electric fan connector.

I have only seen the 36 way ECU male Econoseal on the VEMS web shop.

I have not found anywhere the red 36 way connector which has a different 'key' to the black one

I did a search on the tyco website for the black connector both male and female and several companies came up with how many they had in stock. I dont know if I can buy just one but they are listed. As for the red one I have not found anything yet, might have been a custom order for rover. I guess I could buy a set of black ones and modify it to accept the red male/female key shape.

we asked tyco regarding the red one. it is no official product, it will have been a special run for the ecu manufacturer

KLAS, since you guys are the ones making the UMS systems, will you be getting a set of red connectors made for the ecu you are working on developing for the mpi?

Are the O2 sensor connectors available from one of these sources also? It appears that Rover had a tool that allowed the connection of test equipment:
Oxygen Sensor Check - Tool 18G1639 (alternative method)
A voltmeter may be connected between the sensor and engine harness
connection.
A tee-in tool is available for this purpose, part number:-
18G 1639 (for square type engine harness connections)

This from bulletin:
Bull. No: 0013
All Models CDS. ref R6499bu
Issue: 1
Date: 21.08.96

and I am not sure it applied to the Mini, even though it said all models.
