Still not trusting the fuel gauge, I filled up at the petrol station. Got back in the car and had a look at all the gauges and mysteriously the temperature gauge was off the scale! Incidently, the fuel gauge hadn't moved at all. Then the penny dropped. I've put the temp gauge wire on the fuel gauge, and vice versa A quick swap of the wires and I'm sorted. I drove it with my TomTom on today and discovered the speedo is way out! I'm not sure why, but maybe I got the calculations wrong on the guessworks website, or don't have the final drive I thought I did. At times, it's over 10mph out, and gets worse the faster you go. Might have to get this properly calibrated.
For some reason, the other night when driving out in the lanes, I switched on the main beams. When I did this all the other gauges stop working, and the interior gauge lights also switch off. So it seems that the main beams sap power from everywhere. I don't know what could be causing this, so any help would be great. Also today I stopped the engine, and the electrics had a hard job turning the starter, as it gave a dead battery noise (mild panic as I was in traffic!), but eventually fired up after a few attempts. Maybe my battery isn't up to much.
Also, my steering wheel came loose! I think many moons ago I had tried to get it off and loosened (but not removed) the nut, but it had properly seized. It dislodged today! Got it home OK and it gave me the opportunity to grease the column and straighten the wheel as it was off centre, and tighten it up!
I haven't sussed out the wipers yet, and the lip and trim on the bonnet hasn't yet been done, which spoils the look of the car. I tried washing it yesterday and the shell leaked like a sieve, so I reckon the doors need adjusting, and the windscreen probably needs removing and some sealant putting round it before it's refitted. Lastly, my headlining is poo, and droops everywhere. The rods holding it up have spun round, and its just not tidy.
All little jobs, but at least I'm on the refining stage!

Will update soon though as I'm gonna spend a day getting some small jobs done and doing an oil change.
I've nearly done 500 running in miles, so it's an oil and filter change and I can then take the engine up to 4000rpm!!
Still need to do the bonnet lip, trim the wings to clear the wheels and some other odds and sods. I'm actually tempted to get someone to respray the front end again, to repair the minor dings, fit the grill lip, trim the wings at the same time, and make good the fitting of the grill that I'm not totally happy with.
My headlining has completely collapsed, so when I have money it'll be going into a trimmers to get one professionally fitted. There's a place down the road that'll do one for £200 fitted. Should also solve my leaking windscreen.
Also picked up a set of 5 Slotmags from my brother for nothing, so now have 2 sets of wheels for it. I'm torn between doing the following;
option a: sell my McNally's, refurb the Slotmags and use them.
option b: keep and refurb both sets of wheels and use the slotmags as a winter/trackday set.
option c: sell the slotmags.
The advantage of the slotmags is I think the offset is different so they shouldn't rub like the McNally's. I also only have 4 McNally's and they are like rocking horse poo, so it'll be nice to have a set of 5 matching wheels. Only problem is I adore the McNallys!
