Hi all,

My mini cylinder head is stuck to my block. I've posted about this before, but have still had no joy. I've removed all the studs/nuts except one, at the front centre, which won't budge either. I've tried hitting it, persuading it, and it won't move. I've also tried carefully separating the head gasket form the metal with a scraper, and this had had no effect either.

Anyone have any ideas? I haven't got the correct tool to remove the studs, I managed without it for the others.

remove the rockers, and then turn the engine over slowly with the plugs in, the compression may shift it... failing that host the engine up about an inch of the ground on the rocker studs ( put some cardboard underneath ) the weight of the engine/gearbox may persuade it to come off...

i use the spinning over and let the compression pop it off method

Make sure everything is undo and give it a tug upwards, normally works for me.

Unless you remove ALL the studs/nuts the head ain't gonna come off is, have you tried a nut splitter? or cut the nut down one side then it will undo. Then with ALL the studs out have another go at getting the head off.......................................

Flying gears - Your method is a last ditch attempt I think! I'll try the others before I go down that route. Thanks though, I'll bear it in mind failing everything else.

Haven't tried the compression method, will give that a go. If that fails the I'll go blowtorch and WD40 route. Might use some WD40 to help the compression along a bit. Will also try lifting it carefully.

v21ash - I have removed the nut on the last stud, but not the stud itself. Every other stud came out.

Block of wood and a hammer will do the trick.

Its definitely not welded on, as it does move from side to side slightly.

Like Pauly said, a block of wood (something harder than pine as it splits, holly tree's are quite hard) and a B.F.H. It worked when mine was stuck.

Make sure you brace the block against something as it might tip over if you hit it too hard.

Give it a good wack with a lead mallet or covered mallet. If not use a piece of wood against the head and strike it with a lump hammer in various places.

i had the identical problem a couple of weeks ago and the only thing that worked was removing the final stud, using the two nuts method and then the head came off with no probs at all. The stud will be catching/stuck in the head and you will just have to use a bit of wd40 down the hole.
