How can ANYONE buy a Beetle. I just don't understand it. I mean, a car, that Hitler and his HENCHMAN stole from a bunch of Czech blokes. Then conned millions of Germans through tax to buy the "peoples car", and never delivered them! What a horrific story. This car brought in money used to commit the worst crimes this world has ever seen. MENTAL.

In comparsion the mini. Designed in a short space of time, which innovated car design, and designed by a rather nice chap really. It's a cute car, down to its character and its past. Minis ftw! :D Oh, and it's 100% British. Just like our beef. Except you can drive a mini. You can't drive beef.

If you're going to hold VW and the Beetles history against it, you may as well slate Audi, Opel and Merc as they all had slave labour working for them during WW2, Jews, Gypsies etc. I think the IDEA of the Beetle was good, an affordable car which was in reach of the man on the street.

Probably because the majority of production was forced and used to contribute to the war effort, particular in later years. So it was probably not by choice that slave labour was introduced!

The Beetle certinally was a good idea. Unfortunately Hitler was too busy murdering many Europeans to actually put the idea into reality for those Germans that had paid for it. Terrible, terrible history of a car. I can't drive something that has such an horrific history. Beetle drivers are keeping the spirit of Hitler and the Nazis alive, IMO. That car represents him!

Hahaha. I'd love to link this thread to a Beetle forum. I agree that it's not got the best beginnings but it's a bit strong to say that everyone who owns a Beetle keeps the memory of the third reich alive. What would Herbie say?!?!?!?

i like beetles, they alway seem to be head turners.

dont really know much about beetles,
but im sure if the same amount of money spent on the a-series was spent on a beetle engine you could have a little drift thing

i would have one for the right price, but would never have one of them instead of a mini
my mini is first priorty and wouldnt buy one until my mini is at the standard i have got planned for it

i also like the original split screen van/buses

I think Taffy was implying that the new mini is German, but both new AND old beetle are German.

To the one that hugs monkeys- you can drive cattle, which is just extra fresh beef. :D

Hang on a minute...
The Nazis only built a few Beetles, it was a Brit, Major Ivan Hirst who re-started Beetle production
in occupied Germany to kick start the economy as part of the Marshall plan. The vast majority of
Beetle production was post war.

I'm not talking about production. I'm taking about the design. And my point still stands. Short of putting swastikas' over it, and traficators that salute the Furer, you couldn't make that car more Nazi than it already is. I hate those things.

Partly. The Mini came about because of the Suez crisis mainly. There was a fuel shortage and the main design brief was a small car which won't use a lot of fuel AND have enough room for a family plus luggage. Better than bubble cars by a long shot.
