This is my first post! Woohoo!
I have bought a 1996 Rover Mini Cooper 1.3i, its lovely!!
But I need to buy insurance for it obviously, the only thing is,
the lady I bought it from had the exhaust replaced (MOT issues), and it now has a maniflow exhaust?
Do I need to put this as a exhaust modification on the insurance? or leave it as is?
Also, another quick question, Im going to buy an alarm system for my lovely mini but can anyone recommend one? Has to be £70 and under..
Thanks guys.

Best alarm for a Mini is a steering wheel lock.... well it's not an alarm, but is just as good... IMO

Yes, declare ALL modifications...

Ok thanks, have bought a steering lock too.
Ive looked at insurance, best I can get is £2134 a year, which is £455 deposit and £182 a month.
This is TPF&T from Quinn Direct,
includes legal cover and all modifications declared:
Exhaust System Changes (inc pwr) - Thats the maniflow exhaust
Interior Changes - (Im not sure whether this came standard or it was added in? I have leather seats and walnut/veneer dashboard.)
Paintwork/Stickers - (same as above, its only the cooper stripes on bonnet)
Lights Alteration - (same as above again, these are the rear lights they are clear/white rather than normal.)
If you could let me know if anything is wrong or I could do better that would be fantastic.
Thanks.

The Cooper stripes are most likely standard for the MPi as well, (again Buyers guide).
I'd also consider putting the coloured lenses back on the rear - lighting modification could cover all sorts, or see what difference it'd make anyway.
The exhaust does need to be declared, though you could fit the standard MPi unit, it's not as restrictive as the pea shooters on the earlier mini's.
Still looks quite expensive to me, but could be the extra value of the car or your location compared to mine.

That does sound very expensive, have you tried ringing round all different insurers and had a look on comparison websites?

I have looked around, and rang up Adrian Flux,
Declared the Exhaust,
and got £165 a month, in total £1500, much better than the others.
This also includes:
Unlimited mileage
Breakdown Cover
Cover for driver and all passengers
Legal Cover
etc etc
so its all good!!
Now to pick the mini up

Whats it like driving a mini without power steering? My car at the moment has power steering so its easy!

As long as the steering rack etc is in good order, any Mini is a pleasure to drive ^^

Have you used comparison sites?
Are you 17? Just passed? I still think you should be able to get this for less

Mini has been great, but need your help again!
The insurance company has sent me a Modified Vehicle Report, which I have to fill out and send back,
now Im not sure what to do here,
The things I would put on it are:
Maniflow Exhaust
K&N Air Filter
Clear/white rear lights (they arent original are they??)
and new tyres (or does this not matter)
Thanks
