Aye a 1380 would easily outstrip a vts. Should be quick man.

Just a modded 1275. Me and my dad are gunna do the work on it.

Twin carbs, ported and flowed head, double valve springs, 286 MD cam with duplex vernier kit, lightened fly, (maybe an uprated clutch not sure on this one), S/S LCB with and rc40.

Probs get some different wheels and hi-lo's.

Want to keep it a bit of a sleeper so i can show the tracky b's and tuck in's what a proper car is lol.

I'd get a nice FD in that, summin high like 3.65 etc. Gonna go like a rocket!!!!

I'm hoping that it will have a 3.44 in when i get it but seeing is believing so i'll have to wait and see lol.

Are you going to start a project thread, would be nice to have something to rob ideas follow.

Ok, update.
I couldnt sleep at all wednesday night because my stupid pet frogs keep ribeting all night.
Woke up around 9:30 or ten and went straight into my garage. Ive just got in. (2:07am)

I don't have my camera lead at home so No pictures unfortunatly.

SO I opened to garage door today after leaving it 11 or so days to be welcomed by a massive pool of oil under the car, couldn't believe it. It was that damn diff from eariler. SO had to strip off the o/s hubs and remove the driveshaft. Then I need to take off the exhaust, this was after i'd removed my "odd" cylinder head. Then couldnt get the diff cover off and after 2 hours of straining my father came home from work and we removed it after another hour or so. Then a trip to my mates house where i got, 2 ball joint dust covers because mine were lost, oh I 4 new balljoints done aswell today. I also managed to steal, an ultimate 1275 engine steady, radiator bracket, rocker cover bolt. Also while removing one of the hubs a track rod end's thread gor sheard, so I had to find another. Ummmm then trips back and forth between garage and workshop, cleaning massive oil spill, rebiulding front suspension 3 or 4 times. Putting the engine back together, taking the exhaust off and on, fixing my fog light (which was broken in 3 places), and all the rest I can't be bothered to type. Its been a pretty hard day. Ohhhhh and I had to walk home in the pi$$ing rain. Battery is on charge today so may start tomorrow, will probably need a jump start because my battery is useless, and engine takes quite a bit of juice to turn it.

So jobs left to do are:
Start car,
tune it as best I can,
fit bonnet, sod the grill.
tighten castle nuts on drive shaft
drive to MOT station at 2:00 pm

Im going to bed.

Me thinks re-test is on th cards.

Not a happy boy today. Went out to turn it over, it turned over around 10 times and then stopped, so jumped it off my dads car aaand it wont. Took the rad off and could hadly turn it with a biiig spanner. So hour later the engine was out again and back in the workshop. Then my mate came around with a short 1275 engine. So im going to put that on my 1380 gearbox etc tomorrow and try that instead.

Still can't work out why it siezed if it was spinning eariler.

Ok 1380 mini is no longer 1380.

1380 is now sitting in the workshop just the block crank and pisons though.
Everything else, gearbox, bell housing, clutch, head etc etc etc is now on an ex spi engine.
Got in a 2am again and it's now ready to start, battery on charge ( I listen to the radio for 12 hours, and mine goes through an amp)

So tomorrow im going to try start my 1275. Its an spi engine with a hif44 carb on it, with a slightly bigger valved head, and transmission off 1380.

I may struggle becaues the hiff44 is tuned for the 1380 so it will not run very well on that so will need to get a new needle for it.

Where did you get the 1380 from bud? Are you sure the crank isn't warped?

It's only and extra 100cc the needle should work with revs lol

I got my 1380 for free, the crank isnt warped im sure, because it was turning, but it was stiff, it must have just stiffened up more, can't explain it.

Its now running, not very well at all though. Fueling is all over the place.

Might be an idea to whip everything out, give it a clean & a lube and put it all back together.

Thats the plan, going to rebuild it and make sure it turns over freely before putting it in. Going to get another 1275 gearbox for itso I can just swap the 1275 for the 1380 quickly.

Ok is running quite well now. MOT booked tomorrow for 2pm. I need to pack my radius arm full of grease because thats' got some wear. Will sort that soon. Its also got a quite bad oil leak coming from the timing cover. So will sort that as soon as I get back from the MOT, pass or not. Theres nothing obvious that it will fail on, so fingers crossed. One hell of a difference between 1275 and 998. Although the 1275 has got a bigger valve head and HIF44 on it. I was rolling aling in 1st floored it, and it just lspun the wheels up all the way up my street. Happy with its power.
