I've built a couple A series with 20/50 and its been OK, but if you can get some of this -

Posted Image

It's the shizz!. Well handy if the engine is gonna be sat for a while.

Building it all up tomorrow hopefully, so doubt I'll be able to get any of that.

I'll put 20w50 on the big ends and keep the wynns everywhere else.

Fitted the bigend caps with the tabs on the same side, and it spins nicely, and I can spin it by hand very smoothly, I used the Wynns stuff instead of the oil.

So the crank assembly is all built up. So moved onto the oil pump.

Which is knackered and scored very badly, so will be ordering a new one.

I know the pics arn't great off my phone, but it's all I got

Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaafe

If you mean the car, it's still on the road running a 998.

But thanks anyway.

Aye, of course, but a £50 stopgap engine just isn't the same.

Out of interest, how far do you drive it to/from uni? I'm off next year, and don't know whether to leave mine at home, or trek it to wherever i end up every semester...

70ish miles. Not too far, I know people who trek alot futher to uni though.

It's nice to be able to drive to the supermarket and put your stuff in the boot rather than carrying it all the way home, or on the bus. Is very hard to manage money as a student with a car though.

And your right, the £50 engine isn't the same, but it's a brilliant engine for the money. I've done a few thousand miles on it, and a track day and it's still going strong.

Aaah that isn't too bad, most of my choices are about double that distance away.

Yeah money's the big sticking point. Insurance, Tax, petrol, things that break/fall off are pretty big drains on a student budget.

Is it me, or do the 998's tend to take more of a beating than the 1275's? I keep a spare 998 in the garage too, it's been thrashed for thousands of miles, but still runs brilliantly...

And yeah, why is that?

Yeah 998s are pretty tough engines, well as long as you leave things standard they are. My 1275 engine was pretty good, but then it was fitted to a bog standard gearbox, which blew the diff.

The 1380 died because of the 286 cam meaning I was thrashing it, but with a standard bottom end and no cenrtal oil pickup it soon died.

Hopefully, with the centre main strap, 266 cam, and a central oil pickup and a more carefull build should see it last more than a year.

Removed my AFR gauge and ciggy lighter and the panel they were mounted in and fitted my headunit back in, forgot it was broken though. Also a new oil preasure warning lamp thats noticable.

Didn't like the colour my high beam telltale made.

Posted Image

So dismantled it and fitted an LED and resistor in it.

Posted Image

Much better.

Short engine built.

Posted Image

Painted this, will have to get a gasket for this from somewhere as I forgot to order one.

I need a few more bits to put the engine together yet. And need to decide what gearbox out of the 2 I have here im going to use aswell.

Need it done by 8th idealy aswell.

Just need to put a transmission together slap the head on and fit it all up. Pulley is at the machine shop having a triggerish type wheel fitted.
