All the drop gear clearances fine? Even Idler?

Yup, idler gear is 0.005" end float. Can't remember primary, but was within tolerance.

I'd say its either drop gears, clutch/flywheel or the release bearing?

All been checked. Everything within tolerance and in good condition.

The release bearing was my first suspicion, that is fine, looks like new.

Found the primary gear bush was way past it, so replaced that and all of the other drop gears.

Flywheel was dismantled checked and then reassembled and torqued correctly.

Just going to have to remove it all again and check again I suppose.

Primary thrust was good, can't remember crank end float, but was within tollerance. Engine was fine.

Might be a gearbox issue? How about jacking the front up and trying all gears quickly?

I'm sure i've got one if you need it in a hurry.

At least it gives you time to investigate the engine properly :P

That's the idea.

I need one by monday, so not going to be any good, thanks all the same though.

I might try the hif44 on it, but from what I've read there not much good on standard 998s.
